Can we get our appetizer.. or the wine we ordered??

    Posted by LPears on 11/30/2009

My boyfriend and I went to Alfredo's this past Saturday night for dinner. We chose this restaurant because of the 4 and a half star rating on yelp and great reviews that we read. We made a reservation, arrived a bit early and got a drink at the bar. I was surprised by the 70's, dungeon-esque atmosphere as the place has no windows but was looking forward to the yummy Italian food that everyone seemed to be raving about. We were seated fairly quickly and before our reservation time. Our water glasses were filled and we tried the garlic bread and pickled veggies. I don't know why everyone loves the garlic bread. It tasted like the frozen garlic texas toast you can buy at the grocery store... Our waiter came by, we ordered a carafe of wine and calamari along with our entrees. He disappears and we don't see him for another 30-40 minutes. No wine or appetizer. A food runner comes by with our entrees. We ask him to get our waiter for us. We watch him walk over to the waiter, filling the glasses of another table with wine, and see him tell the waiter our request. Our waiter looks at us then proceeds to disappear for another 10 minutes. The next time we see him, he is laughing and talking with another table. At this point the host comes by and asks us if everything is ok. We told him that it was not and explained the situation. He asks us if we would like him to take away our entrees and bring the wine and appetizers...?! At this point we had been sitting there for close to an hour. He then goes and tells our waiter what was happening and the waiter walks away again!! Didn't seem to care one bit. We said we wanted to leave and all the host did was throw his hands up and say he was sorry. AMAZED at the horrible service especially when we were so looking forward to the food.

    Great family place!

This was our first time at this resturant. We brought our 3yr old daughter who sometimes has trouble sitting still. They talked and played with her and even gave her a free whipped cream cookie desert! The food was wonderful and the atmosphere was very nice with really low lighting. We will definatley go back again and again!

What happaned to this once great place?

    Posted by alexpava1 on 07/16/2009

Had been here many times and loved it. Went back to Alfredo's with a group of 9 this time (we often have a large group so that was nothing new) and the service was beyond bad - I'd have to call it rude and mean spirited. It took 40 minutes to take the order as the waiter kept ignoring us to tend to smaller groups first. He threw the food at us, spoke rudely to members of our group and even yelled at us. If you look at the dates on the reviews here like I have, you will see a pattern growing of a great restaurant that is going bad. Most of the more recent reviews seem to be about the service. Hope they turn it around. There's another good Italian restaurant just down the block that I'm going to next time.

Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else!

My wife and I decided to take a friend of ours out for Italian tonight. For years I ate at Alfredo's. But I had several bad experiences there and quit going. Why I decided to try them again I don't know. Best I can say is maybe they are "h*t or miss." This place used to be GREAT. My friend's food (he is Italian and loves to eat) was a disaster. It was hot and cold. He says they sprinkled some items on top and expected the sauce to heat them up. He gave me a clam and a piece of calamari and they were both stone cold. Simple advice, if you are not a regular there, JUST DON'T DO IT!!!! If you are a regular there tell the establishment the truth. They need to know.

    Best Italian in Atlanta

Try not to fill up on the generous amounts of garlic bread and antipasti they start you off on. Everything here is excellent, from the appetizers (escargot is excellent) and pastas to the veal, chicken, and seafood dishes, to the filet mignon. They have a good wine list, but the house wines are all pretty palatable and cheap. AMAZING service and dark, cozy atmosphere.

    Consistently Good

Alfredo's is consistently good. Some might not care for the decor but its actually very cozy - in a "take me back a few decades" sort of way.

The person below, you obviously don't know what good food and service is. I guess you think of Olive Garden is authentic italian food. This place has been here this long because they are in fact fantastic! If you want something fast and quick, then I suggest going to Fazolis. Or maybe stay home and cook a can of Chef Boy'ardee. This place doesn't rush you, as me and my family like. They wine and dine you. It's the food, the experience, and the atomosphere that makes this place wonderful!

    Very Good

    Tony Soprano Lives!

I love this place if only for the scenery; truly like being an extra on the set of The Sopranos...."woke up this morning, got myself a gun." The decor is a hoot and probably original to the 1950s, as are some of the patrons. Not a window in the place - perhaps it's the casino "they'll spend more if they can't tell what time it is" theory or maybe it's to keep you from escaping once they've realized you're behind on your payments on that loan you took out from the owner to pay your gambling debts. I tell ya, the naugahyde on these booths has seen more action than Lindsay Lohan and you'd swear Frank Sinatra was singing in the lounge instead of just playing through the 30-year-old speakers. Oh, and the food, right, the food - it's delicious and authentic (although my Italian mama disagreed, but she doesn't like anything, so take it with a grain of Parmesan). The mussles are amazing and I seriously wanted to drink the juice they were swimming in directly from a wine glass - it was THAT good. Your waiter is bound to be named Luigi or Mario - just roll with it and enjoy the most excellent pizon watching this side of the Atlantic. Hey is that guy getting rubbed out in the corner? Ciao bella! Honestly, could I throw in one more Italian stereoptype? I can, cuz I am.

    Surviving on regulars and neighorhood

    Posted by HUNGRY1225 on 11/16/2008

I have to agree with the last 2 rewiews. Was told by a fellow employee that alot of there food indeed comes out of a can. Also a long time waiter cursed at us in latino, being ignorant to the fact that we undersood what he was saying. I could go on and on, so lets just say we will not be back.
