I am SOOOOOO happy. I have never had the pleasure of such a great colorist / stylist. Bruce has transformed my overall mood--as well as my hair. I am exuberant and feel like a celebrity.
Ok, I cannot say enough...Bruce inspires a confident mood and makes you feel truly beautiful. Feel assured that you are in the hands of the best colorist in the tri-state region. He promises you a superb haircut and blow-dry style as well!
Trust your tresses to the hands of an absolute professional. He only does what he thinks will work and he uses his magic to make you feel special. He is an amazing guy with a unique personality. In two words, he is a Stellar - Stylist!
My hair was dark brunette and I left the salon today as a classy blonde. If I may say so myself, several heads turned.
Get very used to me, Bruce. I will always find you.

Bruce is the best hairstylist ever.He does beautiful blond color for me ,it is single process which looks
like I have great highlights infused within.Bruce desinged the color just for me,he truly cares about
his clients.I will never let anybody else touch my hair .

Bruce Slemmer is that rare combination of exceptional talent coupled with professionalism. I used to have the distinct pleasure of working with him. I can now write a review without it deemed a conflict of interest.
I have been to many salons in my life. Some of them being considered to be the best in the industry. None of them came close to producing the results that I have seen at the hands of the skillful Bruce. His process takes everything into account: lifestyle, face shape, coloring, and hair texture. His color, cut and blowouts are like nothing I have experienced before.
He has given me the most beautiful, shiny chocolate brown color. That's just the color! The cut and the blowout are equally amazing. I have gotten so many compliments from people in regard to my color and cut. My hair is fine and wavy= unruly. He has transformed my hair into an easy cut that I can wear both wavy and straight.
To start with, when you sit in Bruce's chair your hair will get the attention it deserves, he makes sure of it! His mastery of hair is equally matched by his lack of pretense. Bruce is not someone you go to for just one discipline, such as color and then go to another stylist for a cut. He takes such pride in doing everything from start to finish. This really helps create an atmosphere where you don't feel like cattle that is being herded from stylist to stylist.
I highly recommend Bruce Slemmer for anyone who seeks a new cut, color, keratin treatment, blowout. He really belongs in the league of Fekkai, Licari, Jonathan, Hershberger,etc. I say this because that truly is how good he is! Trust me, your hair will thank you for it.
Lastly, as someone who worked with him he was an absolute pleasure to work with void of any drama. My hair and I miss him very much.

I have been getting my hair colored since I was 14. I love experimenting with new cuts & colors but after a while I gave up on trying anything new because even just getting a single process always ended in disappointment. I have gone to salons all over Philadelphia and the surrounding areas and never found a stylist that really impressed me.
I went to Bruce a little over a year ago and have not gone to anyone since. I have been blonde, black, brunette, red, had different color highlights, etc. I am finally able to experiment with color & cuts because he is fabulous at what he does. Since meeting Bruce I have had long hair, a short textured bob and everything in between and I have never been at all disappointed. He listens to what I want and makes it happen while still giving his own opinions and ideas on what will work with my face shape, overall look, lifestyle, etc. I have sent my friends and my mom to Bruce, each with looks and hair types far different from mine and they have all been beyond pleased with his work and continue to go to him. Whether I'm at bars, clubs, concerts, the mall or walking down the street, I always get stopped by people complimenting my hair and wanting to know who does it. I will NEVER go to, or recommend, anyone but Bruce.

Expensive Hair Coloring Cut Not Good / Help

We moved to the Doylestown area from NY a few months ago. I'd had my hair done by a trusted salon for many years and liked the results. I'd googled salons in the Bucks County area to find someone comparable to what I'd had done in NY. From the salon I found, I got really bad results. I found Bruce Slemmer by talking with people in the area. My experience was as positive as it could be. A great, energetic person, warm and without any kind of pretense, he explained what he would do and why and then did it. The results are really fabulous. My experience with truly exceptional people is that they are rarely self involved or aloof. Bruce is that kind of person: someone you feel totally at ease with, whom you can trust and who is exceptionally talented with hair. Thank you so much Bruce!!!

Afraid of getting your hair screwed up again?? Fear not!

All I've ever wanted was a lighter, but natural/believably-lighter looking hair color. My hair had become orange from the chemical straightening I've had done and... just this past March '09, I trusted a stylist from NE Philly, who normally straightens my hair and let her put some color in it that she said would liven it up.. it turned out GREEN. My hair needed help badly.
At that point, I lost all trust in Salons (re: coloring) and did an extensive online search to find an expert in hair coloring.
I discovered Bruce Slemmer from Beans.
Even after reading all of the reviews online about Bruce.. i was honestly -still- VERY skeptical because my long hair is such a huge part of my look & I've cried before from bad hair disasters in the past.
I was happily surprised that the receptionist at Beans was able to schedule me in for the day that I requested, which was less than a wk away. I was prepared, I did my research on the ins and outs of highlighting and my biggest fear was that i was going to leave the salon with thick streaks of bad color in my hair.
On the day of the appt., I had 2nd thoughts about going in, the thought of calling in to cancel even crossed my mind. I wasn't sure if the risk of having it ruined during this socially busy month for me was worth it.
I bit the bullet and took the chance! I was so anxious and a bit panicked.. that i wasn't even able to tell Bruce all of the things I DIDN'T want. I just blanked. Bruce's plans for my hair "Sounded" amazing, but I had to see the end result to believe it for myself. Conversation was really easy with Bruce as well, he gave me advice on everything from health to beauty.
He took his time placing highlights and lowlights neatly throughout my hair. I could tell he was a perfectionist. I mentioned my stray white hairs around my part and he even assured me that he would take care of them. I have to admit, I really felt taken care of with Bruce, but still.. how would my hair turn out?- that was all that really mattered to me, in the end.
When i finally saw the end result, I was speechless. I've never seen myself with sun-kissed, natural-looking highlights. Before, I had dull brown hair at the roots down to my shoulders and brassy hair from my shoulders all the way down my back. WOW! I left with stunning caramel highlights and amazing lowlights!!!!!
I didn't even need to take out the online coupon that I had printed out. Bruce had ALREADY included the discount, without even a mention of the coupon from me.
There's no question, I'd recommend Bruce to anyone looking for only the best!
It must also be said, during the entire time (from color to blow-dry), no one but Bruce had touched my hair... and as it turns out.. no one but him ever will :)

Greatest Hair, Ever

I had been patonizing the same salon for almost 15 years and it was hard for me to admit that their approach to my hair just wasn't working anymore, The cuts were lazy and the color was, well, flat.
And then, just about 3 months ago, I found Bruce Slemmer at Bean's and he has absolutely restored my faith in the artistry of hair. He is superb. He knows how to color and cut like no one else I have ever found. He methodically applied lowlights and highlights to give my hair dimension that I've never had before. He took his time, he was thoughtful, he talked with me... and it was as if he knew me from the moment I walked in the door. The cut was fabulous and the color was amazing. He really nailed it and I was thrilled.
So I went back to Bruce just a few days ago for my second appointment, again for color and cut. I have to admit that I had been holding off in writing a review after my first visit because I really wanted to see how he would approach my hair the second time around. I didn't think it was possible but my hair turned out even better than I could have imagined! The color has such richness and the cut is perfect. I'm hooked.
I would recommend Bruce and Bean's to anyone. There's no drama at this salon, just pure artistry and talent without the affectations that ruin so many others.

Fear Not!!!

I will admit that I was afraid to get my hair colored & cut. I have not had my hair professionally cut for over 15 years (I cut it myself), and I have never had my hair colored. I desperately wanted to cover my gray hair, but I was afraid to step into a salon. My biggest fears were: 1) that I would end up with hair color that looked like shoe polish ( I have dark brown hair) 2) that I would be told by a stylist that I would have to go much lighter due to the gray, and 3) that I could not keep my hair long because it was "damaged." All of these fears were dismissed by Bruce within the first few minutes of my appointment. Bruce suggested a chocolate brown color and the result is just spectacular. He assured me that the color would add warmth- but not "red"- to my color, and that the "toner" would add incredible overall shine and subtle highlights to the previously gray hair. He was completely correct. My hair is so shiny and has a lot more complexity to the color. I also love the cut. He kept my hair long, with subtle layers, and angled side swept bangs. It took me a bit to agree to deviate from my usual straight across bangs, but he was right -again. I truly enjoyed this experience and highly recommend Bruce to anyone who is as anxious as I was. In addition to his obvious talent as stylist, he is a very warm and friendly person, and he has an incredible knowledge of the do's and don'ts of hair (and skin) care. Thank you so much.

Blew me away!

Manayunk is always a joy to go to. Beans is not only a awesome salon but the beauty store has it all. They keep their stylist up to date with the best products to use on clients and keeps their stylist up to date with the newest color and hair styling techniques. I've seen it with my own eyes. Bruce simply blew me away. His energy and attentiveness was amazing. I felt like I was the center of his world. He always made sure I was comfotable. My hair, OMG, simply beautiful. I went in with a head of a very deep burgandy colored hair with very dark ends and an inch of roots. I asked him what he could do to help me start going blonde again. He didn't even flinch. I was absolutley satisfied with the end result. My hair lightened greatly and he was able to mix it into the red in a way that it looked like I had him do highlights and low lights. I thought it would take forever to get the red out but he rocked it out. Not to mention, my hair still feels so healthy. I'm Just in awe. So is everyone else, I'm like permentaly blushing from all of the compliments.
