Very cozy, quiet atmosphere

I've been to Nanakusa a few times, both have been quite similar...in fact, I sat at the same table both times! The restaurant itself is quite small, but really cute and I love the decor. Our service was just ok, half the time when we needed our waitress she wasn't there, or she was in a rush/seemed busy, even when it was a really slow night. When ordering quite a few pieces of salmon sashimi, the waitress made a comment on how 'that's a lot of salmon', so I could've done without her added commentary. But regardless, the sushi was good, not the best I've ever had. Average!

Number two of the three Japanese restaurants in town

I've lived in Japan for many years (5 1/2 in case you're wondering). I just moved to town and visited all the Japanese restaurants with a Japanese friend (check out my reviews of the other places). We had lunch here so I can't say anything about the sushi. I ordered the katsudon. The service was fine. Many standard meals that come with rice in most other Japanese restaurants (and all restaurants in Japan) don't come with rice!!! You have to order rice separately!!! Unheard of....But their miso soup was the best in town. They also offer the widest range of sake in the area (according to them, all of the midwest). A bit pricey but to be expected. I'd go back and try their sushi. I would also take clients here b/c it has a nice "business" atmosphere.

Best Sushi in Milwaukee!

By far the best sushi in Milwaukee. The service you can't beat, our server was very knowledgeable and friendly! The menu was just what we were looking for, authentic but had some flare. Also has a very pleasant and extremely clean atmosphere. I definitely recommend it you won't be sorry.

Don't waste money here on sushi

First time diner tonight for Nanakusa...from my experience this evening, I will unlikley return. Service was sub-par. After sitting down, ordered wine, and entire meal at the same time. No wine, appetizer for 30 minutes WITHOUT explanation until that point that bottle we ordered was no longer available...had to wait an additional 10 minutes (after the first available dish was presented) for the next recommended bottle of wine to be presented. I would have thought that the suggested replacement would have been at least the same price, however the screw top bottle replacement, was bland, not even chilled to the correct temperature and I was charged MORE than the bottle that I chose initially. The waitress even apologized during mid-meal that "we weren't getting as much attention" because "it became so busy while we were there." The sushi and rolls were adequate, however, not close to providing a meal that would fill an even small appetite. I was ready to order another roll and additional sushi, however, after waiting an additional 20 minutes for our waitress to show up, decided that I would much rather spend our time and money on another venue for after dinner drinks and dessert. Very disappointed despite all of the rave reviews. The bill for $100 for 2 people without dessert and tip ( and leaving hungry) could be spent much better elsewhere.

we just moved here...this place just happens to be a couple of blocks from our condo, so I've gotten to know it pretty well. The staff is awesome...our waitress spent 10 minutes giving us a map with directions to other cool food places in MKE.
I agree with the other reviews...prices are a bit steep, but the sushi is well worth it. I had a tuna sashimi sampler the last visit that had two different Toro tuna cuts. The dumplings are a "must-have". I was disappointed in the Kobe beef the last visit, but it may have been the preparation...should have gone with the Kobe Tataki. I recommend the dumplings, the tempura, and any of the sushi...as a "foody", I especially liked the pan-continental Ceviche roll with cilantro and lime juice. I think their Bento boxes are way overpriced at $30 a pop.

An original change of scenerie!

Great place to go if you're looking for good food and a classy atmosphere. I often eat here w/ just a friend or two, but is also good for larger groups, as long as you're courteous of other patrons. Wait staff is well-versed on its wine and sake selection, and very helpful picking out an entree if you find yourself indecisive. A little pricier for Milwaukee, but definately worth it! And a word to the wise~ don't drive if you have more than one "Flirtini"! :)

Beautiful yet cold and overpriced

Nanakusa in one of the most interesting looking restaurants in milwaukee. Even though is feels a little cold, the place is beautiful. Decent selection of sake. Quality is usually decent if you go on delivery days. Has a decent variety of fish.
The quality good for Milwauke but the bill usually looks like you ate in Chicago.
