Stick To The Pizza!
Posted by ColinN on 07/13/2009
I just experienced yet another dissappointing lunch at Plank's. I should have followed the advice of a friend who said, "stick to the pizza"! But I opted to have the "Roast Beef & Chedder Sub" described as tender, juicy, roast beef piled high with melted cheddar and banana peppers. Well ... if having one piece of roast beef folded over three times is "piled high", I must have been mistaken to actually expect some serious roast beef on this sub. Not only was the beef portion anemic, but the sub roll was so dry that the top was flaking off in big chunks as I choked this lackluster Saharian creation down ..... note to self = free refills of drinks a must with this effortless creation.
The other consistency with this place is the slowwwwwww, dispassionate service ... seems like "whatever???" rules here as I have never gotten outta here in under 1 1/2 hours for lunch! It took three trys to get my Dr. Pepper selection correct!!
Bottom line ... I'm done!! Unless I am in no hurry at all, plan to have only pizza, and drink beer on their outside patio (which is nice, except for the ever present bathroom smell), I will go to their Parson's Avenue location where the service is friendly and the food is far superior!
Sorry, Plank's!! No Subs For You!!!

Recently ate at Plank's. First of all the entire place reeked of bathroom smell. It was really bad. The food was so averagely awfully I won't be going back.

Part of the OSU experience...
Posted by bhizey on 08/11/2004
This bar captures the aura of 'old Columbus town' including the German heritage and the OSU experience. Plank's is a no-nonsense beer and food joint. Beer-selection consists of standard domestics and a good selection of imports (bottles and draughts). Menu includes pizza, German cuisine and standard American dishes. Pizza is of the highest standard and I can only think of 1 or 2 other places in the world with better pizza. Crowd consists of a mix of alumni, German Village locals and softball players. Game days (and especially post-game hours) are the best. Alumni are sure to appreciate its like taking a step back in time to those OSU days of old. Warm weather months can be spent in the garden itself. My wife and I never miss a chance to visit Planks when we return to Columbus for games or family visits.

Go for the Pizza, not the Bier
Posted by dogbrick on 05/01/2003
Stopped here after a softball game, and so did a lot of other people. I would definitely recommend trying to come when the parking is easier to find. They have two small lots and street parking, but even that is not sufficient on a weekend night. I had been here once or twice in the last couple years and remembered it being pretty good. This place is known for its pizza and I must say the pizza is excellent. They have an outdoor patio area, a covered patio-type area (w/picnic bench seating) and a bar area with more traditional booth/table seating. Nice German-themed atmosphere in the bar area, with old pictures and what-not.
As for the beer, it is kind of a let-down considering the whole "bier garten" name. You can find a few different Great Lakes, Sierra Nevada Pale etc. in bottles, and Guinness or Warsteiner on draught.

Plank familiy has owned this place forever! Great place to go for after parties and celebrations. I have known of choir parties, nursing-school state-board parties, olympic parties, etc. Planks makes you feel forever young.
