Customer Service is Dead/The Manager Sucked
Posted by tlsure on 10/09/2009
I'm sorry neither of you received excellent customer service (or any customer service for that matter). But I aasure you 'customer service' is not completely dead. Although it certainly was dead with your experiences. Unfortunately, nowadays people can't afford to hold out for jobs they like, they just take the ones that are available. I say if you don't like people then don't take a people 'person job'!
Now if I may toot my own horn; I feel I am a great CSR. If I tell a customer I will call him/her back I do it. I am polite, patient, and most of all respectful. It's not to say customers don't tick me off, I just NEVER let them know it. I generally put myself in the customer's shoes & treat them they way I expect to be treated even if the customer treats me poorly. I must say, in my opinion the saying 'The customer is always right" is false. I think it should be revised to 'The customer is NOT always right, we just have to treat them as though they are". Sometimes customers can be mean and nasty too however it is not the customers JOB to be nice to us, but it is good manners and greatly appreciated when they are. Sometimes I am so nice to the customers I'm drained of my niceness when I get home..(smile...poor family).
I am a CSR for life no matter what job title I hold. Proud CSR..Tunja
My rating is based on my experiences

The manager sucked!
Posted by ToyLady on 09/05/2009
I went back into Staples with a receipt and ream of colored paper that I'd purchased for a special event and didn't need. I'd lost my old debit card and had gotten a new card, but because I'd paid on a debit card they insisted that they were going to give me a Staples shopping card. I said BS! Debit is the same as cash, the transaction had been ten days before and they had my cash in their greedy corporate hands! I demanded a manager! Talk about poor hygiene this guy had no teeth and reeked of cigarette smoke. He proceeded to give me crap about how I'd take the Staples card or else. Being the stubborn person I am I stood my ground raised my voice a bit so that all of the customers could hear my tirade and let him have it. I stated that I'd paid by debit which is essentially cash, had a receipt, the transaction was over a week old and they had their money in the bank and I wasn't leaving till the transaction was put onto my new card or I had cash in hand and that I wouldn not comply with their trying to make a person captive to where they spend their money! Stand your ground folks, I walked out with cash in hand and will not be doing any further shopping at Staples due to lousy rules, poor treatment of the paying customer and their attitudes. Guess what Staples? I run two business's and am successful!

Customer Service is Dead
Posted by nartzba on 08/21/2009
I took my PC in for a tune up, some troubleshooting due to slowness and back up. Typically, the man said it should take 4 days - anything after or if they found a problem that they'd call. I called after 6, trying to be patient. They found a problem! After I told them I was annoyed with the lack of telephone call - the man said he would have it done that day and call me by 5pm. I called at 6, asked for the manager. He was not sympathetic and told me the reason it was slow was due to my virus protection... Which STAPLES recommended. My computer isn't fixed, but I at least have a back up. These people are horrible and I am certain that Customer Service is dead. People have become rude for a reason!

Copy Center idiots
Posted by petdoctor on 06/08/2009
Went in for copies on card stock. The kid working couldn't figure out how to load the copier, wasted 4 sheets of my paper, and finally told me they weren't able to do it. Went home & copied them on my HOME PRINTER. Really? A home copier/printer works better than the industrial ones at a specialty copy center? Aparently there are no requirements for hiring the idiots who work in the copy center. One man I talked to over the phone, though, was very helpful. He must get a huge self esteem boost every day he goes to work.

mixed feelings

Well, i'm a bit upset and happy with them because of the way an employee treated me. But then right away a manager came, noticed and fixed it. He (the manager) even reprimanded the employee right away and even apologized to me for the employee's behavior.

I wish I could give them negative stars

Staples was more than happy to sell me a Cannon i9900 printer. Now they do not back it up by carrying the inks for it. They have discontinued the red and green ink cartridges for this printer, and a number of other inks they stocked in the past. They used to advertise that they had the best selection of inks out there, well they don't anymore, and I can't go to my local staples anymore to get the inks I need, even though I have a very expensive printer they were more than happy to charge me over 1,000 dollars for. I have to look around online to order them, and guess what Staples, thanks to the inconvenience, if I have to order my inks online now, I will not be ordering them from you. Staples is supposed to be an office supply store, they are supposed to be serving the business community, every time I turn around they have discontinued something critical I need to keep my business up and humming, but they still have all manner of ootsy cutesy crafts items for homeowners. You are a professional office supply store, or you are not. If you want to become a crafts store, fine, but quit pretending to be an office supply store serving professionals, and pick a more appropriate name, you are not a professional office supply store anymore, and your stock reflects that you are way more interested in promoting cute crafts items to homeowners than serving the business community. You can't stock crucial items like printing ink and business cards, in your stores but you can make plenty of display space for stupid battery operated red buttons from some factory in China that say "That was easy". Well you aren't easy for businesses to deal with anymore, you don't take your mission seriously any more, and being the life of the office party isn't going to help you stay in business. Those idiotic red buttons will be the office joke, and you will be gone.

rip off

I purchased a very expensive Epson printer for my son on December 23rd from the Staples in Southbury, CT as a Christmas present. After visiting for less than two weeks after Christmas he plugged in the Printer and it kept getting error messages and would not work. Staples would not exchange it for a working printer or let us return it. They said "did you purchase the extended warranty? I said no, but it wouldn't even work from the first day he plugged it in. The manager of the store said, "Guess you should have purchased the extended warranty"...I will not use Staples again

I wouldn't go anywhere else! In my line of work I need a of items copied, lamenated, etc. I choose Staples over anywhere else because even if the staff doesn't "kiss up" to me, my orders are right, fast, and professional. I don't have any reason to go anywhere else. Love this Copy Center!
