Not What They Used To Be

My husband and I have been a client here for years because his family had developed a good working relationship with this branch of State Farm. His parents always had great things to say about it, so I figured it was the best. And it was for a time. Until we had an accident (wasn't our fault), and I ended up doing most of the work to put the thing to bed (research, staying on top of the other person's insurance company, etc.). It underminded my faith in Mr. Conway's office, but not enough to make me want to end our association. Unfortunately, that day has finally dawned. With property values plummeting all around us, I was going to call Mr. Conway to discuss lowering the insurance on our home this afternoon. I called him to talk about that, but to also discuss something even more pressing. Today after after opening our mortgage statement for the month, I noticed that our escrow payment was going to be raised by $100 in April. When I brought it up to him, he told me that people in "certain zip codes" (his words) were making lots of claims, so much so, that everyone's insurance rates were going up. I said, "So let me get this straight, those of us who aren't making claims have to saddle the burden? This is unacceptable, especially since I live in an area where the value of a home has gone down considerably. I'm being charged more for less. I'm very unhappy about this, and you need to know that we WILL be looking for a new insurance company." His reply? "There's nothing stoppin' ya." I was livid at the disrespect he showed me- a long time customer- but controlled myself and said, "Wow, thanks for saying that. Goodbye." and I hung up, but not before I heard him say "You're welcome". What a rude jerk! If they ever were as great as my husband's family thought they were, Steve Conway's State Farm office certainly isn't anything close to great any longer. It's the furthest thing from it.
