As an alternative to the crowded buffets and long lines for brunch, Payard's is perfect. In pure bistro style, the dining room is elegant and cozy, wrapping around a chef's station that wafts the wonderful aromas while you wait. The food is fantastic, especially the brioche French toast topped with a warm sauce of raspberries, blackberries and blueberries dolloped with fresh whip cream. The omelettes and croque monsieur are equally spectacular, as well as the entire lunch menu. Of course, the desserts are notoriously sublime, like the chocolate-raspberry tart and the Louvre chocolate-hazelnut mousse. Payard's award-winning chocolates and tarts are delightful (available in the adjoining express counter and store).
