Check your check thoroughly...

Sadly they will try to scam you on the bill. Otherwise good food, good ambience, spoilt by the bad taste left by blatant check miscalculation / mis-representation.

Nice place to sit back, relax, and have a great time!

My spouse and I decided to check this place out - we were looking for a new experience. We both enjoyed it very much! The food is good, the portions are a little on the small side but very tasty. Neither one of us left hungry though, so we can't complain. The prices are reasonable and the entertainment is fun to watch - belly dancers perform periodically and the entire room cheers on those brave enough to get up and dance with them. We went on a Saturday night and it was packed! Glad we had reservations. Overall a good value for the price paid.

Tasy traditional Moroccan food
Posted by grantchilders on 05/23/2007
My wife and I visited Babouch for our 9th anniversary celebration. We were sat at a low round table. We were immediately given menus and a cocktail list. The restaurant was well decorated and it made you feel like you were in Morocco. The waiter was friendly and made suggestions regarding our order. Prior to the meal being served, the waiter brings over a large bowl and a pitcher and pours warm water over your hands for washing; a nice traditional touch. The food was excellent! Very tasty and we enjoyed it very much. However, the portions are very small. If you are looking for a lot of food and are very hungry, this is not the place for you. But again, the food was excellent. During the meal, the belly dancer performed two dances and then we were all invited to dance with her. I did so, and held my own pretty well if I might add. This is a relaxed atmosphere, so if you are in a hurry and want "chop chop" service, this also is not the place for you. This is a restaurant where you relax and take your time and enjoy the decore, the dancing, the food and the people you are with. Allow approximately two hours; this is not McDonalds or Wendy's. Additiionally, unless forks are requested, you eat with your hands. You are given a small towel to use to wipe your fingers and to use as your napkin. After the meal, they again wash your hands.
In summary, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and loved the food. Very, very tasty. I would not recommend taking small children there, this is for adults. My wife and I will definately go back and will take our friends with us. Be open minded and have fun with this restaurant.

Fantastic Experience
Posted by ibraille on 07/07/2005
This place is fantastic. This is not a place we would normally have ventured into on our own, but when my spouse and I got a gift certificate we were excited to check it out. We didn't know what to expect. It's rather unimpressive from the outside but then you walk in--WOW. Between the decor, music, and the waiters traditional garb it's quite an ambience that's created. The food was like nothing we'd ever tasted! And a 5 course meal(incl. dessert) for $25 a person is an absolute steal! We left like stuffed pigs. The service was impeccable and the belly dancing just added to the whole experience. If you're looking to try something new and delicious you absolutely have to try Babouch!

Terrible Dining Experience
Posted by wendo715 on 02/14/2005
We went to Babouch for Valentines eve. We were seated by a family with 2 little kids, right by the front door. (We had reservations.) The portions are extremely STINGY. We got a 1/2 small bowl of soup, 3 round carrot slices, about 20 garbanzos and 2 tablespoons of marinated eggplant. (This was for 2 people!) We had to flag down the waiters for bread. The main course was also paltry. They charged us for 2 extra cocktails at 9 bucks a piece, refused to remove the charge, and the manager was very rude. He said he served us all the drinks, which was an out and out lie. We got a bill for $206.+ for 2 of us. We will never go back if we live 100 years.

Poorly prepared food, very overpriced. We paid $40 per person and when we asked for seperate checks the management refused and said we'd have to figure it out. Four people were served food more appropriate for 2 people. The management adds on the tip to the bill and refuses to remove it. Rude manager and the promised tarot card reading that was supposed to be included in your meal price was only given to 2 people out of the group and the other 2 were refused. Go somewhere else!

Run as fast as you can!

What a disaster! We were in Long Beach for a convention and decided to check out a Morroccan restaurant, Babouch has got to be the worst Middle Eastern/Moroccan restaurant we've ever been to. The food was ridiculously overpriced, a group of 8 adults, we were serve one very small chicken, 3 small skewers of shish kabob, a fatty hunk of lamb the size of my palm and a small dish of cous cous, all for the low price of $27.00 a person. This did not include the $2 lukewarm cokes we were served, and told after the waitress had refilled them several times that we would be charged for each refill. What about the atmosphere, maybe that's what we were paying for??? Not hardly, unless you find waiters in santa hats amusing. Pay a little more and check out Dar Maghreb for a more authentic experience!

Take a trip abroad!

This is a complete experience, not just a meal. The lamb is soooo good! All the vegitarian dishes are delightful. It's like being in another time and place. The service is great. And...fun, fun, fun! Wait until the belly dancer arrives!! And don't be surprised when the bill is far less than all this would imply!
