so so food, huge servings
Posted by pinays on 05/07/2007
first off, i thought this place is in uptown on oak street and not decatur. that being said, my first impression was fairly bad. i went on a saturday night at around 9 pm and the place was fairly empty. the hostess was right at the front but refused to talk to us for about 5 minutes. then, when she finallyh got to us, she wanted to know if we have reservations. luckily, our server was not so bad. he was actually quite helpful and friendly. but, for an almost empty restaurant, service was kinda slow. as for the food, the servings were huge. i had the special appetizer consisting of fried calamari, shrimp and crawfish. i thought that was just ok, nothing spectacular. i also had the special entree of soft shell crab. that was huge! but, i thought it was just too greasy. i had better soft shell crab at the jazzfest earlier that day. that being said, this place was just ok although i probably would try other restaurants in new orleans on my next visit.

Best asian cajun cuisine on Oak St.

Our experience with Asian Cajun was wonderful. Before we went I was checking reviews
and almost bailed after reading nola_evacuee's review, but my girlfriend said that we
should give it a try. And I am glad I did. We like a lot of flavor in our food, and none of the
dishes we got were bland. Most things had a sweet component to them, which we all like.
The only problem we had was ordering beer, they were out of most premiums. So we
opted to go with their specialty drink the "Green Dragon". I thought it was too sweet
(maybe because I was wanting a good beer), but others liked it. So here is what we got,
and all are highly recommended.
Appetizers:
Fried Green Tomato $8.95
Blackened Oysters $9.95 - Excellent
Chicken with Pine Nuts $8.95 - Excellent
Entries
H & S Shrimp - $18.95 - Excellent ( Hot and Sour?)
Orange Duckling - $24.95
Dinner Special (a Shrimp dish) - $19.95
Desserts
Almond Florentine - $7.95
Fudge Tiramisu - $7.95
Apple Pie with Purple Yam Ice Cream (came with dinner special)
I don't know if nola_evaucuee and Asian Cajun were both having a bad day, or if we were
both having a good day, but we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner while sitting on the front
porch watching the Maple Leaf crowd gear up for another night of great music.
P.S. We also had a great waitress who was attentive and pleasant, go check it out.

Worst service ever!

After reading the reviews posted, I am sure that they were written before Katrina. They are now located on Oak St. My friend and I checked out the menu before sitting down. It seemed a bit pricey, but we figured that we would give it a chance. They neglected to tell us that they don't have their liquor license yet, which is not totally important, but it would have been nice to know. We received our drinks after our appetizers were served. We then mentioned to the waiter this error and he asks us what we ordered again. He made no apology. It wasn't like the bartender was slammed and couldn't pour us 2 sodas. We enjoyed our appetizers but the same can not be said for the entrees. They were bland and overpriced. I had a noodle dish with vegetables. Unfortunately, I can not remember her entree. I only ate half of it and was asked if I wanted a box. I said yes because I figured that it was so expensive that I could add some flavor to it at home. Unfortunately or fortunately, I had not received the box after we had paid. I then asked about it and the server said that he didn't hear me. No apology again. We would have stiffed him, but we had used our cards and I was paranoid. Usually, I am quite understanding because I used to wait tables. This however was ridiculous. We should have complained to the management, but we wanted to get out as soon as possible.

A solid recommendation

We had a party of 10 and they were able to accomondate us with a same day reservation (thanks to the concierge at the Royal Sonesta hotel). The food was good, but some portions looked a bit smaller than expected, but filling.
The staff was fantastic and very attentive - my glass was never empty. Rhonda took great care of us and even had the band sing happy birthday!
This place is definately on my list the next time I return to New Orleans.

Great Prices for What You Get!

This restaurant was an oasis in the desert of overpriced New Orleans restaurants. My friend and I stumbled upon it one night and, for the rest of our holiday in NO, religiously supped here. The staff is very courteous and friendly. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. I ordered the baked seafood platter which came with tons of food and priced under $18 (an incredible value for New Orleans). I highly recommend this place.

Good food - good service

Probably most interesting and reasonably priced breakfast in the Quarter. Crawfish cheese grits particularly good, but biscuits & gravy Davey right tasty as well. Blue plate lunches are a paticularly great value.
Service can sometimes be a bit slow during peak times, but always friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend - particularly for breakfast.
