    Exceptional

Great coffee, great food, sincere staff

    Posted by suzymccormick on 01/29/2009

A great coffee and pastry cafe. Trying to find a high quality independent coffee shop downtown can be tricky at times. You are surrounded by a Starbucks everywhere you turn - and many of the other coffee shops think that a mocha must consist of 1/4 cup low quality chocolate syrup - yuck. Belle's coffee is delicious - whether I order a drip, Americano or a mocha. Their food is delicious and the staff has been just as courteous, prompt, repsectful and pleasant whether I order a $2 drip or a $4 mocha with a lunch and pastry to take away. Whenever I am in the area and need a coffee I head over to Belle's.

    amazing goodies!

i used to work down the hall from this cafe. they have AMAZING cookies, rum balsz, cakes, other goodies... they are a bit pricey and their workers are not always the friendlies however. they also offer french coffee drinks, pelligrino, coke, teas. I used to LOVE their veggie pannini, but they took it off their menu :-( Oh, their ham and cheese sandwich is pretty good, but their baggett bread is awfully tough to bite through. They make cakes too,I had inquired about their wedding cakes (and viewed their pictures), but didn't get a reply from the owner who makes them.

    Very Good

    Belle Epicurean

After seeing Carolyn Ferguson for months at the local farmers' markets and at Pike Place with her succulent pastries, it is a joy to find that she's finally opened a classy little cafe. Even more exciting is to find that it's in a great location, right at the foot of the Olympic Fairmont Hotel in downtown Seattle. Perhaps most exciting of all, however, is that her foods taste far, far better than even their beautiful presentation could have implied. I've heard rave reviews about her brioches, gallettes, and croissants, but to test out this French pastry school graduates talents, I went straight for the desserts. I shared a "Boca l'Orange" flourless torte, and an "Opera Slice" layered cake with a friend. I thought they would be fantastic; they were heavenly. If you're in the mood for a truly complex and unique dessert experience, go immediately to Belle's. I'm no dessert connoisseur, but eating her desserts sure made me feel like one.The ambiance of the cafe is a little rushed and barren amid the sparse roman-style decor, but I imagine they'll fill it in as they go.

    Good

Like most things French, slightly intimidating.

Belle Epicurean is a cute little cafe with yummy pastries and sandwiches. The entrance is on 4th Avenue, but it's part of the Fairmount Olympic Hotel--so fairly upscale. Diplomas from "Le Cordon Bleu" are displayed on the wall. The specialty is the stuffed brioche buns--but I think the sandwiches and sweet pastries are better. The buns seemed a bit dry to me. Check it out for the pastries though.
