Pretty good science center, could be better

Posted by Karen S. on 08/18/2005

This is a pretty good science museum, but for Detroit being a major city I think it could be better. They charge admission to get in, then extra admission for the Imax Dome Theater, then extra admission for the planetarium, then extra admission for the music studio exhibit. Its very expensive for what it is. You would be better going to the Childrens science museums in Ann Arbor or Toledo. That being said the Dome Theater is amazing! There is nothing quite like it, your seat reclines back and everything around you is the movie. The planetarium with surround sound is also quite something to see. The rest of the exhibits however, are average at best. I wouldn't bother unless you are going to see the dome movie and planetarium also.

What a great place to spend a day you can find so many different things to explore and the kids love it. I love watching them as they discover how different things work. This is perfect for a day out or a field trip. Also you HAVE to go to the IMAX it doesn't even matter what they are showing it is always cool in there theater.

This was a great experience for our whole family. We spent the day here and enjoyed all the exhibits. The Imax was too much fun. I would recommend visiting that no matter what is showing at the time. This would make the perfect family outing, school field trip. Wonderful for homeschoolers. They have all sorts of activities for many different age ranges. Also a great little gift shop.

    THIS IS FUN!

You can go here and have fun at ANY age, very young, and very old. There IS something for everyone here! It is fun, educational, and VERY interesting. They usually have something going on at all times, like a special theme, or a special area (one time it was dedicated to dinosaurs, and they were moving and lifesize!). This place is a MUST GO! It is NOT expensive either, so grab the kids, mom, dad, and the grandparents, anf GO! The have an IMAX screen to, so you can see agreat educational science movie, and feel like you're gonne puke!

    Fabulous Under-Rated Museum

Posted by Sean D. on 08/10/2005

This science museum seems to be forgotten by most in the area. It is a hidden gem. This recently expanded museum is huge and full of many great hands on activities and exhibits. I spent a few hours looking at all the huge and exciting exhibits on various scientific topics. There were a few live performances of science that also had audience participation. It is a wonderful experience.

Too Much Fun For One Person To Have!

Posted by Jeri E. on 07/18/2005

My family loves the Detroit Science Center. A few years ago there was a renovation and it really paid off. The exhibits are a lot of the typical things that you see at this type of Science Museum, but it's the special exhibits that really set it apart. My favorite time of year is when the Free Press holds their annual Yak Reading promotion. Local and national authors come and read their works and autograph books that you bring in (or buy there) for free! There are also times when the museum admission is free- keep an eye out for those, and definitely check this museum out!
