Awesome Staff!

The folks at AM PM Animal Hospital are so attentive and friendly! Brought my Lab in for an emergency at 3 a.m. on Sunday when he was throwing up all over the place. They saw us right away and give him a shot to clear up the infection. Thanks a bunch.

Do not go there unless you have NO other option
Posted by austinr0x on 04/18/2009
My cat had accidentally swallowed some flea and tick medicine that I bought over the counter. He went into a full seizure and lost all control of his nervous system, heart was racing a million miles a minute and was spitting up. I rushed him to AM/PM Animal Hospital and they quoted me over 1000.00 at a minimum to provide treatment. I was cry and only could afford 250.00 at the time. They then suggested putting him to sleep! I couldn't believe they said that and I asked if there were any other options. They said to call a friend or family to help. During this time, my cat is suffering. I asked if they could do anything to get him ok until the morning where I could take him to a vet and they said for 200.00+ they could give him a couple things, but couldn't guarantee that he would survive and had me sign a form stating I refused the full treatment. I was crying and they had no empathy for my situation. I felt like a number and it was the worst experience I've ever had. It seems that since they are a animal hospital, they would have a little more compassion and work with my budget, but it wasn't an option. They made me feel like I didn't care enough about my cat since I didn't want to spend over 1000.00. I run a pet sitting service in Austin and I believe in treating pets just like you would children - they make up a huge part of our lives and bring tons of happiness into our world. If one of my clients needs me to watch their pets and cannot afford to pay me, I let them pay when they are able. I would never refuse caring for their pets.
I took Sugar home from AM/PM and he was shaking all night. Whatever they did, didn't help him at all. I took him to my vet the next morning and Dr Spellman, on North Lamar, did a miracle on him. Within 15 minutes, I could see Sugar calming down. Sugar is doing wonderful today and it's because of Dr. Spellman and his staff.

AVOID!!!!!
Posted by citygirl100 on 03/16/2009
This is without a doubt the worst clinic we have ever used. You seldom see the same doctor, even if you ask for them and no one knows you or your pet. They always over prescribe non-necessary services making you feel like you aren't taking care of your pet if you don't let them do them. Their rates for everything are excessive. We have repeatedly asked for a 'plan' of care for helping our elderly pet who is obviously deteriorating and are told to just bring him in for routine exams and routine expensive tests that they require "just in case they have to do surgery". When we were told the dog needed as special diet that only they sell, I asked the ingredient rations so I can cook the same thing since I do make a lot of the pet's food. The vet looked at me in disbelief and said that she didn't even cook for her own children! So the option was to spend an excessive amount of money on canned food or feel guilty for not being a 'good pet parent'. If you have a truly ill animal, this is the last place you want to go, they will over-charge you and there is no compassionate care for the pet nor for the owners.

In times of trouble, Go here!
Posted by 3dogsparents on 02/04/2009
Our 15 yr old cocker was struck by a car this past Sunday & suffered catastrophic injuries. We called our regular vet (the one at a large chain pet store where we had been patients for 7 years). We were told they were "too busy" to see her. After a frantic search with our beloved pet bleeding in the street, AM/PM Animal Hospital immediately accepted us. From the moment we arrived until we said our goodbyes as they gave Julie her final nap, the entire staff was unbelievely kind, compassionate and professional. They sent us a especially kind sympathy note several days later to reassure us that we did the most merciful thing for our beloved pet.
We are no longer taking our dogs, including our new rescue cocker, to our old vet @ "that" chain store. We will be here!

They Are The Worst
Posted by coloradoqueen on 01/11/2009
Today I called because my cat was suffering and she needed to be put down A.S.A.P. and they made me make an appointment 5 hours out. They are an emergency clinic? When I called back and told them that I wanted to bring her in, they were not sympathetic at all. They asked me if they ever treated her before? I've been taking my animals there for the last coulple of years and spent hundreds if not thousands of dollars there and nothing! They gave me a number to another clinic.
When I went to the other clinic they acted immediatly due to her condition and told me she could not have suffered for another 5 hours. They were more accomodating there than Am/PM has ever been.
I've been going to Am/Pm out of convenience for the past couple of years. I never really loved going there but I kept giving them chances. I've always felt that they nickel and dimed me and if I couldn't afford something I always felt crappy. Alternative solutions were never recommended.
I will never go here ever again! Everyone I know will be alerted about how crappy I was treated today! They will lose lots of business!!

A little expensive but worth the price
Posted by rjpaterson on 11/24/2008
Thank goodness I live just down the street from AM/PM because my dog Kahlua has been there many times. The staff is always friendly and helpful and though they are expensive, its worth the piece of mind to be able to take my dog at any time of the day or night instead of hoping she gets better overnight to go to her normal vet. The staff is great at keeping me updated when she has to stay overnight and always treats my dog as if she's their own.

Do not go here, they will take advatage of you!!!!

AM/PM hospital told me they would do a diagnostic to find what might be wrong with my dog Oneder for $81.00. I waited for over an hour to have the "doctor" come in for less than five minutes and tell me they would have to do diagnostics which would cost me $320.00 more. I spent $81.00 for a supposed diagnostic, and nothing was confirmed. I have never felt so violated, and when I confronted the clerks they just shrugged their shoulders and swiped my card. Stay with someone you know, Riverside Veterinary Clinic has never taken advantage of me in 14 years. The only reason I went to AM/PM is because RVC was closed. It is very unfortunate that we have businesses like the AM/PM Hospital. I will make sure everyone I know knows this story!

Helpful but Costly !
Posted by austinite5 on 05/06/2008
I felt that the staff was very polite and super helpful. I do think they were very expensive. I think they knew I was freaking out and took full advantage of that fact. I think they used vet jargon to confuse me and have me agree to order cultures and tests that were unnecessary. I also felt as if the price for the meds I received was astronomical. It cost me $227.86 for antibiotics and pain meds for a two week period. I don't know about any of you, but I've never paid that much for my pet meds EVER. I asked a few friends, one of which has 7 dogs and a cat. They all agreed that it was very over-priced. As I said, they were very nice and one of the only vets that acceptd walk-ins, but I paid for it dearly. If you have the income to spend, They're fantastic!

Top Knotch Vet!
Posted by lakelandBella on 04/15/2008
I have lived in Austin for 7 years and looked for a great vet for a while. Dr. Parker has been caring for my 13 year old Lakeland Terrier and 10 year old Golden Retriever for about 5 years. I am so grateful to Dr. Parker and her staff for all of the wonderful care and service they have provided me with. Dr. Parker is one of the most caring and compaissionate veternarians I have seen, and my girls do not mind going to see her.
My Lakeland has been through a lot the last couple of years, and Dr. Parker only requests tests that she feels are necessary. Dr. Parker and her staff listen to my concerns and understand that I want the best care, but that I also have a budget.
One of my best friends in Austin is an emergency veternarian North of the city, and I have come to understand quite a bit about the industry, as she owns her own clinic. It is very expensive to operate a vet clinic, and I completely understand the charges that Dr. Parker requires for her services. There may be other "cheaper" clinics, but that does not mean that they are better. There are also other clinics that are more expensive than AM/PM, and that does not necessarily mean better service as well.
I judge a veternarian and his/her staff on a few criteria: 1) Does the vet or tech listen to my concerns? 2) Are the tests explained to me, and the reasoning for them? 3) Do my dogs mind going there? 4) Is it clean? 5) Is the staff courteous and respectful? 6) Do my dogs get better?
I have been to many vets across the country, and there has not been one vet that will get down on the floor with my girls and talk to them other than Dr. Parker. Does this clinic pass my criteria? Yes, absolutely Yes!
When Dr. Parker is not available, we also see Dr. Smith, and she is just as wonderful.
Bravo to you AM/PM Animal Hospital Veternarians ans entire staff!
Love, Bella and Logan
