In the heart of Ghent
"Tapas" is the name for a wide variety of appetizers in Spanish cuisine. There are a number of legends regarding the origin of "Tapas". According to one popular legend "Tapas" which means "lid" or "cover" in Castellano Spanish first originated in 17th Century Spain. In an attempt to curb increasing public alcohol abuse in Spain, King Felipe III decreed that all taverns provide a small plate of food to cover their wine.
The patron had to consume the food to get to the wine, thus reducing public drunkenness, at least, in theory.
In America, many restaurateurs serve everyday appetizers and call them "Tapas".
At Ibiza, our Tapas is made of imported Spanish ingredients and spices and cooked in authentic Spanish tradition. Here you can choose from a wide variety of Spanish entrees and Tapas and enjoy a wide selection of fine wines from around the world.
