Food not even close to New Orleans quality
Posted by gudfuud on 08/04/2009
The server was nice, the place is neat. The dining experience ends there.
When you are in the French Quarter you have an abundance of very good food around you. The fried shrimp had HEAVY breading and taste like the frozen shrimp you buy in the box, pre breaded....in fact I am convinced. The shrimp and artichoke dip tasted like bad fish, very fishy. Even if there were not in a culinary mecca, they food would still be considered terrible in my book.
Why waste an oppertunity to eat a quality meal on Bubba Gumps prefabbed, frozen food? I cannot think of any.

Bubba Gump restuarant in New Orleans is a great family venue with a fun atmosphere. Been here many times and has never been bad. Service is up beat and prompt. Food is high quality and taste. Granted this is New Orleans and its full of great places to eat but for family dining Bubba Gump simply cannot be beat. I mean I would not take my kids to eat at most local places here but we always make a trip to the Gump when in town.

This is one of my favorite restaurants to visit when in New Orleans!! The staff is amazing!! The food is delicious! My personal favorite it the Shrimper's Heaven! And their Hush Pups are to die for!!! Everytime I have visited this restaurant, I have had superb services!! The staff look like they actually love their job! And they do trivia from the movie!! I have brought a large group in as well...PERFECT restaurant for large groups. I was amazed at how speedy the service was for 40ppl!!

Gets business because of the name and location

This is a very touristy place but the food is not great. There is much better seafood surrounding this place in the French Quarter. Mostly about show.

fun place but not necessarily spectacular food

given that my friends had low expectations when we checked out this place, we were pleasantly surprised that the food was okay. i had the heavenly shrimp platter (or something like that) which consisted of the chili shrimp (steamed, i think, and dipped in chili sauce), coconut shrimp (fried), regular fried shrimp and some stuffed shrimp (fried). everything was just ok -- not bad but not great either. a friend had the shrimp etouffe and i think she enjoyed it. another had a past dish with shrimp and that was ok. some friends did not enjoy the hush puppies. we all shared a sampler appetizer (steamed shrimp, artichoke dip,m chicken tenders and some other thing i don't remember) and i though that was just ok... note, that the chicken tenders was not fried but soaked in some kind of barbecue sauce. the service was friendly. the restaurant had the cute forrest gump theme. the servers asked trivia from the movie (did you know that sally field played the mom AND a reporter?). that being said, i will probably not go back.

This was one of the first restaurants in New Orleans I went to with friends. It's decorated to feel like you're on a shrimp boat and there's something for everyone.

Good for food, bad for service

I just got back from my latest of MANY trips to New Orleans. This was of course post-Katrina. One thing all businesses in New Orleans have in common now is that they have jacked the prices up. I always get the shrimp net bucket, which does not have enough food in it. They should put it on the appetizer menu. The last time I came here we had a funny waitress who quizzed us with Forrest Gump trivia. The server we had this time was unattentive, and slow. The prices were outrageous as previously stated. It was a bummer because this was my boyfriend's first time in New Orleans. He did not enjoy this place, sadly. I recommend the strawberry lemonade which is homemade with real chunks of strawberries in it.

I ate at bubba gumps on April 2 and I enjoyed it. Good food from all the people and great service, all you have to do is turn over a sign and your wait-person will be there in a matter of seconds. The only bummer was that we had few selections due to the fact that we were traveling in a group with 110 people so we could only order 3 things from the menu, and if you arent a seafood fiend you might be best eating somewhere else. At one point one waiter started playing a forest gump trivia game with everyone on the floor to entertain us while the drink orders were being filled.
