Whats so great?
Posted by Culturalexplorer on 02/13/2009
They say this place is sophisticated and classy. Yeah right. I was thinking about taking my date there tonight but I remember having tasted the food before and it was just average. Nothing great to excite me. Plus, the atmosphere really isn't one for a date. Overall, I was not impressed at all by this restaurant and after having gone to other indian places in dallas. STRONGLY suggest now that you go somewhere else.
Don't hold this place to high standards then you'll like it.

Indian Food - For non-indian taste buds
Posted by akshay on 01/20/2009
I would tend to agree with a few others who have made this point before - the food definitely is too bland for anyone who still maintains Indian taste buds.I would like to say that while the quality of food is pretty good compared to some of the other Indian restaurants, the food definitely lacks Indian flavor, which by the way doesn't start and end with the "spiciness" aspect alone.
Also, since this restaurant does attract a lot of non-Indians, I have often felt that the waiters don't necessarily spend a whole lot of time and attention on you if you are an Indian. Whether this is a direction given to them from the management or whether this is a result of Indians not tipping them as much because most Indians will tend to find this food "average", I cant say. All I know is that I tip well and still don't end up getting the kind of service that a "non-Indian" fellow sitting on the next table does.
As far as the rates go, this place definitely charges a premium for their reputation and location. The fact that they don't let you swap rice with naan is obnoxious, given the stature this place claims to have.
Overall, I still feel that their buffet gives you a lot of variety and is worth a visit.

price has gone up ... pretty good Indian food
Posted by teknodogg on 12/09/2008
first read review online saying weekday lunch for 7.95 then citysearch says it's 8.95 and after lunch I found out it's now 9.95/person for lunch buffet
upon entering...we were greeted by a cute hostess but sadly she sat us down at the 1st table which was next to the door =/ I usually prefer to sit in the middle of the action but whatever it gave us a good exercise between plates, the server was nice but didn't come back to check on us and gave us water without any ice (again not a big deal)
onto the buffet table...they had the yellow safran rice, 1 beef dish I forgot the name, chicken tandor and chicken masala, some fried brockley(kind of weird), chick peas, some cheese/spanich dish, and okra with onion dish and some mixed meat/veget dumpling meatball looking thing with cream sauce on top and your fruits and desserts and tomato soup w/ coconut flacks
over all it was a good experience, the place was bigger than what I pictured, pretty cool deco, food was pretty good too but I wish the price was lower and maybe add a curry dish or 2 into the mix.....it's called indian palace after all

Lunch buffet average
Posted by ILuvFood82 on 08/19/2008
The lunch buffet is just average and the choices they have are at times very few. I have had other Indian Buffets that were far better than India Palace. I still don't understand what everyone is raving about. There are plenty of other Indian restaurants in the Dallas that far exceed this place. Maybe try Chat caffe, Our Place Indian Cuisine or even Masala.

NOT Good Indian Food! Rather generic and blah
Posted by MommynDallas on 08/13/2008
Did someone really say this was the best in Dallas? This was our first time trying India Palace after just moving to the Dallas area recently. I was really disappointed. The sauces were thin and lacking any depth of flavor. We had Chicken Tikka Masala = little more than chicken in tomato cream sauce. It was really quite bland and the sauce was so runny. The chicken was dried out too on both this dish and the other. We also ordered Chicken Vindaloo. While this was certainly hot enough to break a sweat, that was pretty much all it had to offer. Normally we love Indian for the complexity of the spices but this was just not to be found for us at India Palace.
The mint chutney was good, as was the Naan. I simply don't recommend this place.
The other reviews were misleading and worries me that this is all Dallas has to offer.

Excellent variety, fresh, spicy and delicious.

I've been here three times and was very satisifed each time. The food has an impressive kick to it, yet is still tasty and fresh. The service is friendly and courteous and the staff always seem to be there when needed.

My View
Posted by mobiledude on 06/23/2004
I had been to this restaurant for weekend buffet recently, but was disappointed by the food and contents. The buffet was very bad with just 1 chicken and 1 beef dish....chicken tandoor not coooked properly..overall not worth paying $11.85.
Moreover the restaurant was full of american customers..so food was NOT spicy, but very bland as americans like it.....if you need spicy good food this is not the restaurant to go.
