    I went to this airport location this morning and was told they have the cheapest rates in the terminal. The guy quoted me a price of $202.89 for two days including the $20 a day insurance fee. I was pleased and left. When I checked my bank my account was $350 less than expected. They never told me that they were charging me a deposit. Then I was told my bank might have to wait an additional couple of days to refund the amount. I had bills that were due that are now not going to be able to get paid. The AGENT should have disclosed this prior to renting me the vehicle. This place stinks!!!!!!!!! I will never rent from there again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I reserved a full sized truck via their online reservation system two weeks prior to the rental date. I was going out of town to pick up some furniture that would not fit in the back of my SUV. I received TWO confirmation emails from the company, but arrived the morning of my rental to find they did not have my requested vehicle. I was told that the customer who had it the day before called and decided to keep it. I inquired as to why I hadn't received a phone call or email, since they knew the day before, and was told that because I reserved online, they did not have my contact information! What a ridiculous company! While I was in the office, another group of tourists showed up to pick up a van they had reserved and was told that it was not available either, that they should check back around five. How does this company stay in business! The manager was not in, so I requested to speak with him by phone. He was rude and actually hung up on me! I have rented cars over 100 times in the past 3 years, both for business and personal use, and have never had an experience like this! Do no use this company!!

    Note this review is for the Payless Car Rental on 3345 Kettner. The only Payless location in San Diego. We rented during the weekend of 5/19/08 . They delivered as promised. However, a couple of items you should be aware of. 1) You may find the service slow. Unlike the big national car rental chains that run shuttles to their lots every few minutes, this operation is running only one shuttle. Therefore, you will need to extremely patient. We had to wait approx. 25 - 30 minutes for the shuttle coming and going. Additionally, the office was understaffed. Meaning that you had to wait in line for service. 30-45 minutes to get the car, 5-10 minutes to check the car back in. Becasue they are a small operation they are having staff focused on too many responsibilities to run a smooth operation 2) Make sure you understand when they ask about Extended and "Basic" Insurance. When most people hear "basic" insurance they are thinking the inusrance that your personal auto insurance or credit card provide. If you say "basic" they are going to tack an additional charge on your bill. Make sure you understand what insurance coverage you have before showing up. Staff was very hard working, pleasant and helpful.

    I rented a car from Payless for one day. I put on 70 miles and had the vehicle for 5 hours. When I dropped off the car, I waited at the car for one of the Payless employees to check me in. She walked around the car, looked in at the mileage and fuel tank, and, when I asked her if everything was OK, she replied that it was. I always wait for the person in the receiving area to check me in. I am not one of those customers that just walk off. A month later I received a letter that said that they had to replace the plastic hubcap and that I owed them $250.00. I responded to the letter but was again told that I was responsible for the damage. When I dropped off the car and the Payless employee walked around it, she did not see any damage. I feel this damage was done after I dropped off the car and was no longer responsible for it. For instance, the car had to have been driven to the wash bays, taken through the car wash, and driven to the parking area after I dropped it off and it had been inspected by the check in person. I did not do this damage but I still have to pay the $250.00. And - really!! - $250.00 for a plastic hubcap.
