    Yum!

This BBQ joint is small but noteworthy. An Ames tradition, Battle's knows how to serve it up right. With competition from the other BBQ joint in Ames, Battle's has really held its own thanks to a great location and an ever so contributory college student following. Complete with red checked tablecloths, this little restaurant is a nice place to grab a hearty but quick lunch . Parking is hard, so better walk to and from that BBQ Beef Sandwich if possible.

    The best Bar-B-Q around

    Posted by X X. on 08/06/2005

Battle's Bar-B-Q recently moved to larger location Welch Ave in Ames. While Hickory Park is the most popular Bar-B-Q restaurant in the area, Battle's is a lesser known secret and is a great deal better. It has a great atmosphere, there is usually some good jazz playing and the walls are nicely decorated with items collected by George Battle on his road trips.Battle's one-of-a-kind sauces make it especially unique. The menu isn't particularly large, but each item on it is very good. I highly recommend the pork sandwich and a side of potato salad. There is also another Battle's Bar-B-Q located in nearby Nevada, Iowa, which is worth checking out for the same great food in a slightly different atmosphere.

Battle's BBQ -don't take your vegetarian friends!

With a VERY casual atmosphere, Battle's serves up some great BBQ. In addition to their great sandwiches and ribs (always opt for the spicier sauce, if you can handle it) Battle's also serves locally famous lemonade. Made fresh and offered up in mason jars, this is the lemonade of lemon-lovers. This is a really great place to take your family if they happen to be enthusiastic carnivores.
