Treatment Protocol

1. Conservative physical medicine modalities and techniques may include cold / hot pack application, ultrasound, electrostimulation, TENS, vapocoolant spray and stretch and therapeutic exercise instruction.

2. Fabrication and insertion of orthotics are used to treat muscle hyperactivity and allow reposturing of the craniovertebral complex.

3. Cervical support pillow may be used nightly to allow reposturing and reduced activity of the upper quarter musculature of the craniovertebral complex.

4. Stress reduction techniques and therapeutic exercise may be used to develop greater awareness of how stress increases muscular activity and the harmful effects it causes.

5. Pharmacological intervention may be used to enhance a patient's recovery.

6. Dental sleep appliance is a mandibular advancement device used to maintain an open airway during sleep to prevent snoring and disturbed sleep.
