Tasty BBQ in a Great Little Town
Posted by ninkasi on 12/08/2009
Tasty BBQ and "Great Little Town" are not the first things that come to mind when I think of the "Greater LA" area, but Zeke's is all that and then some. Located in picturesque Montrose, CA, a sleepy little village of a town north of Glendale, Zeke's delectable smokehouse aromas entice those strolling and shopping along Honolulu, beckoning them to come in and savor the flavor of Kansas City styled pulled pork and other fixins. I've had the rib tip sandwich and a mini version of the pulled pork and enjoyed them both. Service is always pleasant, and while it could be a little pricey for a regular lunch spot, it's definitely worth it for a change of pace.

Good Local BBQ Spot
Posted by WebRunner on 12/08/2009
Had lunch here today for the second time and was happy overall with the service and the food. I ordered a mini sandwich with pulled pork and a side salad, a great deal for about eight bucks. The pork was well seasoned and not too vinagery or too sweet - balance between flavors seemed just right. And I don't normally rave about a salad, but this one had chunks of cucumber, a variety of lettuce, and if I'm not mistaken, some green cabbage tossed in, along with shredded carrots. Instead of pouring the dressing on top, the salad was tossed with the dressing. I chose ranch and it went well with my mini-sandwich. Maybe not the absolute best BBQ I've ever had - that honor goes to my step dad - but decent enough for this native Texan.

Solid BBQ

This is a solid BBQ joint. I only had the BBQ chicken, but people I ate with enjoyed the BBQ as well. Montros is a cool town so that is an added benefit.

It was okay for a bbq joint.

I've never rated a resaurant before, but here it goes. I expected a large joint, but Zeke's is a small yet cozy eatery. Could decide if I should order the Memphis style baby backs or the Kansas City spare ribs. I decided to go with the baby backs, because hubby got the sampler platter, which meant that I could taste the spare ribs on his plate. Thank goodness I ordered the baby backs, because I thought the spare ribs were a little too fatty. The baby backs didn't have the meat falling off of the bone, but they were tasty. Also tasted the chicken on the sampler platter, it was very juicy with good flavor. I thought the cole slaw was a bit dry, and the garlic toast was a little too toasted. I rated this restaurant a 4 because the other members in my party did not have any complaints. Oh, if you have a large group, good luck. You'd better give them a call first. So there you go Zeke's! We'll more than likely go back again.

The best barbecue in San Fernando Valley

This is a great barbecue place. Very casual, but cute. The pulled pork sandwich is wonderful, and so are the sweek potato fries. Really good prices.

Nice change

Went to the Zekes in Hollywood which is pretty new.Never tried Louisiana barbeque,But , was taken by my New Orleans girlfriend.I must say,It was very tasty food.Have been back 3 times more.It should be a lot busier than what it is.Maybe ,The cuisine is too obscure for L.A.I do highly recommend the po-boy pork sandwich. damn it's good ! Makes a change from the typical L.A restaurants.

Once bitten twice shy
Posted by justdan03 on 08/10/2008
I ordered this for delivery with a friend of mine and less than an hour after eating we were both sick. The only other meal we both had that day was a frozen pizza which another friend, whom never got sick, shared. Though I am no doctor, I and my friend have been sick for almost 24 hours now. This is the first time I have ever gotten sick from food, but this is something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemies. Maybe this is a fluke case, because the food was otherwise delicious. In fact I am actually sad that I can never eat there again, but for me "once bitten twice shy" explains my feelings for Zekes right now.

The best BBQ ouside of Texas!
Posted by timlnesbitt01 on 10/16/2007
I moved to Dallas, Texas in 1974. I just moved back to Montrose where I found Zeke's Smokehouse. I fell in love with this restaurant. The brisket is cooked slow and is well worth the time and trouble. The pulled pork is absolutley wonderfull. The BBQ Beans are a wonderful treat and the home-made potato chips are excellent. A wonderful location in a great setting, if you like great BBQ, you will be very happy, and the price is well worth it. You all keep up the great work.

Best Kansas City BBQ in Town!
Posted by risenshine on 08/05/2007
My husband and I went to dinner at Zekes this weekend. We've heard about how good they are but were blown away how fantastic they are! The food was absolutley delicious. I always order brisket whenever I go to a restaurant specializing in Kansas City BBQ and I have to say this is some of the best most tender brisket I've ever had. We had the choice to either go to Tony Romas which is just ok for BBQ or to try Zekes and were glad we made that choice because we had great service, delicious food and it came fast and were not disapointed with the prices because it was definatley worth it! There is something on the menu for everyone and every price range!

Best BBQ in LA!
Posted by mentorkyrom on 05/02/2007
I cant see why people complain about the price here, the foods so good it's amazing! Not to mention the quality of the meat, it comes from a USDA food supplier that's literally UPSTAIRS, talk about fresh! What makes zeke's stand apart is the quality of the meat and the variety of BBQ options. Think "fancy BBQ" and you've got Zeke's. Besides, you can get my favourite thing on the menu for $10 (a pulled pork sandwich tossed in a spicy vin. topped with coleslaw and a carolina BBQ sauce!!!). Ten bucks for a lunch is nothing, you can spend that much at Carls Jr! The service is friendliest around town. Vegetarians welcome!!! My girlfriend is a vegetarian and she can still go in there an leave happy, and full! There veggie burger comes with grilled vegetables and your choice of jack or chedder cheese. Don't even get me started on the sides, the mash patatoes should be illegal because of how so creamy and delicious they are, the creamy coleslaw is to die for, the applesauce comments the pork like white on rice, and don't even get me started on the greenbeans! Things to try, Zeke's Combo (alot of food), Pulled Pork Sandwich, the brisket, and the salmon!
