    Great Place

Interesting first review and I have to disagree. I've been here a few times and always order a mocha which is better than Starbucks. The staff has always been friendly and professional. Their prices are really fair and the coffee they use is exceptional, never burnt. They have a good array of desserts that are ALL good. This is a great place in Wedgwood where it really needed it. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants good coffee, not at Starbucks prices.

A black mark for The Black Cat!!

    Posted by night_llama on 04/29/2008

I live and work in the Meadowbrook neighborhood, and I have been a customer of the Black Cat since it opened, but NEVER AGAIN!! Today I went in to the quaint little coffee shop with my friend, and we were greeting with harsh, scary music and unfriendly glares from the shady teens that inhabited the coffee shop. We proceeded with caution to the counter, and waited for a good two minutes for one of the teens to FINALLY get up to change music behind the counter. Frustrated already I asked "Do you work here?" I was greeted with a caveman grunt of "Yeah." I then ordered a Caramel Macchiato (a standard favorite) the "barista" began to make the drink (slowly) and finally asked what it is that I had ordered, (how he got that fair without knowing my order is amazing to me) I re-ordered my drink and he gave me a blank look "A Golden Sunset?" Confused, I asked what that was...and it turns out it was the Black Cat's version of the Caramel Macchiato. After a good five minutes, my drink was finally finished. After, a few teenage girls entered the cafe, and while my friend was ordering her drink, the "barista" started talking to the girls, AGAIN missing her order. (Which was the same as my own.) The girls who came in picked up a few muffins and started talking to the "barista" while he was making my friends drink. One of the girls even proceeded to walk behind the counter and change the music! And the “barista” said nothing. Once finished, he ignored us and instead proceeded to charge the girls for their muffins. While in the process of making the second drink, he stopped half away to make sure the music was ok. When it came to paying, my friend had to wait, he even forgot is she had paid. He looked blankly to us and asked "Did I charge you?" Being the honest people we are, my friend responded that she had not. He took her card, ran it and handed my friend her drink. He then walked out from behind the counter, to sit again with the group of loud teens. My friend went to take a drink of her coffee and noticed that it was only half full. Shocked we tired to get the attention of the "barista” and we asked why he had only filled the cup up half way. He then said (while still sitting with his friends) that "That's what a Macchiato is two shots of espresso with some crap drizzled on top." I then asked him his name and told him that I would be lodging a complaint about him. He then got angry, and started to yell at us, while his friends started to swear and threaten us, telling us "YOU CAN LEAVE!" We left the coffee shop, before the threats escalated. Not really wanting to make a big scene, just getting the justice that is deserved. We just wanted an acutal cup of coffee, not half. The worse part of it all was that we were not even able to finish our drinks, wasting a good $3.00! I will never got back to the Black Cat, and you shouldn’t either!!

    Lovely Little Coffee Shop

This place has fast and friendly customer service with great coffee. I go there for the wireless and my mocha is always delicious. They also have a wonderful selections of treats and pastries, although they're a little light on heartier food. The thing I like best, though, is the chummy neighborhood feel, with people of all ages coming in and baristas that know your drink and usually your name, too. This was really a needed addition to this area.
