Very Good looking design but...
Posted by VanWiggins on 10/19/2009
Yes! They have a very good looking design but the staffs (and the lady at the front counter) are difference!
You have to careful with the prices! Sometime you have to pay more than you expected! Even I have my nails done here many times but every time I come, I have to deal with the prices, they always asked for add-on services even I dont needed, they repeat asking you many times and when I refused, they seem not happy and work like not willing to do! Rush and rush! One time, I tried somewhere else and I am not come back again!

Just Say Yes to Great Service Great Prices and Great Staff
Posted by Petaluma on 07/11/2009
I am writing to respond to the person who posted under Just Say No to Bad Service. Nothing could be further from the truth and I am wondering what planet this former customer came from.
My partner and I have been going to this salon for the nearly two years it has been open. On every occasion we are treated with warm welcomes and made to feel like we are special. We watch other customers come in and this hospitality is given to all of them as well.
The salon is exceptionally clean and the tools being used are sterilized in autoclavs that are right there for all to see. As far as the staff, yes most of them are Vietnamese and are always so eager to learn about our country and lifestyle. They are genuinely interested in who we are and seem very grateful to be in the USA. I find that they have done their homework and know more about our culture than some who have lived here all their lives. They show respect and get respect in return.
In terms of the quality, I have been in many salons and I will say that these folks know exactly how to make rather ugly feet like mine look good, and that is no small accomplishment.
The pricing is very competitive and they never surprise you with add ons. They politiely ask if you would want extras and are not pushy about it. On occasions when I do get extra they are very clear that it is an additional charge.
My partner has taken his own mother there and we have both recommended several of our friends who continue going back.
The owner and the manager are both very aware of their demographics and are constantly looking for new ways to reach out to the community which is more than most businesses do these days.
We go back every 10 days without fail and even as regulars we sometimes have to wait as the chairs are usually filled but waiting 10 minutes for this great experience is a small price to pay.
I would highly recommend Isle of Serenity to all customers, men, women, young old, gay straight. everyone is welcome here!
Happy to take the time to write this review

BAD Service Anything but Serene
Posted by JustSayNoToBadService on 06/26/2009
They speak Viet and talk badly about customers. They assume 'whitey' is an idiot and does not understand what they are saying! They changed the price of services in the middle of them. i.e. I went in to get a Manicure and Pedicure, [my usual shop was closed due to death emergency in their family]. The sign on the window says Manicure Pedicure $35. BUT I always verify pricing just in case they may be having a special. They have over 15 position, all but ONE was empty. I was told the price was $35. After the girl cut my toenails she asked if I wanted them buffed, I said no. She asked if I wanted the callouses removed, but of course! that is what a pedicure is all about. She said that would be $10. extra. I said no. The boy doing my nails asked if I wanted paraffin. I asked how much? He said $15. I said no. I just wanted the normal manicure and pedicure. They both simultaneously stopped! I asked for the Manager. No Manager on duty. I asked to speak to the owner. No Owner. I was told the owner could be there is FIVE minutes. I waited TEN. A woman showed up and insisted I had to pay for the callous removal. I said NO! and I got up and walked out! They CHASED me down the street shouting epitaphs. They called the police. The police came. I explained my side of the story. They explained their side of the story. They admitted that they changed the price AFTER the service was started. The police sent them on their way. Will I ever go back? NEVER in a million years! Maybe that is the way people do business in Vietnam, but it is not the way we do business in Los Angeles! I now know why 99% of the shop was empty! Other people have been burned and are not going back! They have prime space in West Hollywood and are paying prime rent, but their business WILL FAIL with this sort of treatment. These underhanded sales techniques AFTER the processes have started are FRAUDULENT! I strongly urge any reader to not patronize this establishment.

good location, nice staff but pricey
Posted by MissJane1 on 04/21/2009
The first time I came here I loved this place, but the last time I felt like the manicurist was pushing for add-ons. I'm sorry, but everything should be included in a pedicure, it shouldn't be an extra $10 for callous removal--at the most it's $5 other places that are cheaper and do a good job. Also, the employees were talking with each other and the manicurist kept stopping to talk which made the entire process last longer than it should have. There was also a creepy guy hanging around which made it a bit uncomfortable. Anyhow, I love the interior, they are friendly and they don't do a bad job, but I feel it's a bit overpriced for services that can be done elsewhere for cheaper and possibly better.

Good enough for the stars!!!!!
Posted by Moviemagic on 01/21/2009
I was in Isle of Serenity Nail Spa on Sunday and was sitting in a spa chair next to Britney Spears and her mother. Oh my god I could not believe my eyes. They were getting a Mani/Pedi and I over heard her tell the owner that she really loved this Spa. I have been coming to this place for a year now and they really know how to take care of their customers. I mean, I am seeing more and more big named stars like Hayden Panatierre coming into this high class and extremely clean nail spa. I also love the fact that it is open late and I can come in after I get off work. The staff is so friendly and they always try to make you feel like family. I will always come to Isle of Serenity because of the great job they do on your nails and you never know what famous person you will see will walk in. It's exciting!!!

POOR QUALITY
Posted by anneelliott on 09/08/2008
I?ve been here about a dozen times since it opened, and it breaks my heart that in the past 3 months, despite being clean and convenient, I can?t get a manicure that lasts more than 48 hours. After being out of town from February until June, I returned to Isle of Serenity 3 times (I get manicures about every 10 days.) The first time back my cuticles looked jagged after about 2 days. The next time my nails were filed at an angle and in different shapes (they should have been square w/ rounded corners, but some had sharp corners, several were filed on a slant and one was oval.) Again the cuticles looked horrible, this time after about a day. Due to convenience, I gave them a third try, but with much the same results. I tried being very, very specific, but started getting attitude, so I gave up. 3 manicures, 3 manicurists. Now that would have been the end of it, but today, 4 days after getting a manicure at another salon, I looked at my hands and my nails look great! And it?s the second great manicure from this other salon. The 1st one lasted 13 days. Sure, the polish was a bit worn, but the cuticles were clean and neat. And the manicure cost less than at Isle of Serenity. Unfortunately, the second salon has limited hours, is 3 times as far from my home, and isn?t as sanitary as Isle of Serenity. Also, the atmosphere isn?t as pleasant, but I got a manicure that looked good and lasted.

Isle of Serenity is truly serene!
Posted by Janifra on 07/26/2008
Very, very, nice salon and location - very sanitary and comfortable also.
This was my first time at this salon for a pedicure. The technician was very competent and did an excellent job. The one issue I have with the salon is the add-on pricing. A pedicure is $23; however, you have to pay $10.00 to have your heels washed/scrubbed! I am not quite sure what is included in the $23.00 or if you actually get your feet washed but I was not willing to take the risk. In addition, the technician was very interested in providing other services, 10 min of additional massage for $10.00, etc., etc. The experience is hampered by the constant attempts to make more money by adding services (without a rationale); it gives the appearance that the technicians are more interested in money than services and quality.
I would recommend that the salon continue to provide quality services and allow the clients to select add-ons. Advertising the services and the pricing and allow the clients to select the ones they want. Additionally, cut out the additional $10.00 with the pedicure - when you pay for a pedicure it should be full service.

Serenity says it all
Posted by searchforstars on 06/16/2008
I am a young lady of Beverly Hills and happen to come across this nail spa just walking by. If you blink you'll miss it, but at that point I had my eyes wide open and happen to walk in. I was impressed by the classy look, and clean atmosphere. I was approached by a handsome gentleman at the desk with an awesome personality and made me feel welcomed. He answered all my questiones and was very clear of the services and prices. So off I went to experience the most relaxing, pleasurable feeling as I got a manicure and pedicure. The place gives you an isle of serenity experience with a gentle breeze from the beautiful ceiling fans above, and relaxing music playing. Most of all, the place was extremely clean and I was thoroghly satisfied when I left, I will definately go back. This is a classy place located just blocks away from Beverly Hills.

a bit expensive for what you get
Posted by bananasareformonkeys on 06/10/2008
well, they advertise manicure pedicure for $35...well you don't get your feet scrubbed for that money...they tell you callus removal costs and extra $10, i think that's a joke...isn't that why you go for pedicure? ok i see, it's a beautiful nail salon, the chairs are brand new, the people who work there are very nice, do a a great job, but don't fool us please...say $40 or 45bucks and then do the whole job without hidden fees...overall my friend and i had a great time, i was just disappointed about the extra 10buck to get the real thing...i am not sure i will return.

Isle of Serenity is #1!!!!!!
Posted by erndog62 on 04/15/2008
I just want to say that this place is the best spa I have ever been to. It is extremely clean and sanitary and the quality of service is #1. The staff is extremely friendly, and they really do pamper you. I just love coming in here because it is very quiet and I can really relax without all the loud talking that you get from other spas. They also have plenty of girls on hand so you don't have to wait forever to get serviced. It also doesn't have that heavy chemical smell inside like other spas because of all the acrylics, and as a gay man that is very important to me. I highly recommend this place to all gay men. I will definitely be back !!!!!
