How difficult can it be to boil an egg?

    Posted by lillyla on 12/08/2007

I'm actually writing this review about the Brentwood location on San Vicente since City Search doesn't have it listed. I typically love this place but when my boyfriend and I went for breakfast at this new location and ordered eggs with instructions on how we would like them cooked, my "hard boiled" eggs came to me soft and my boyfriend's "soft omelette" came hard as a rock. On second attempt my boyfriend got the omelette he wanted but the kitchen and whoever was putting the order in just didn't seem to understand the meaning of a hard boiled egg. At the tail end of watching my boyfriend finish his omelette I was again served soft boiled eggs. The waitress didn't check up on us to see if everything was OK so I had to flag down the manager and ask him to take my portion of the meal off of the bill. Of course they did, but I felt their response was casual and insensitive as they said I'm sorry we can't get it right 2x..maybe you should order something else. I will not return to this location again. How difficult can it be to boil an egg?

I love everything about this place: attentive servers, delicious and healthy food, plus indulgent desserts.

I called this place to make a reservation, which I understand they don't take, but the manager, had the nerve to discourage my business. She basically told me that they don't want to lose money with a large group!!!! Usually restaurants make more money with large groups!!!! No business etiquette. I'm a business owner myself and if I start refusing business to people, I'm the one that'll be in the hole!!! The manager needs to be brushed up on her business etiquette skills!

    Exceptional

    Surprisingly Scrumptious and Fresh

My partner brought home a fantastic meal from this restaurant one day. He usually brings home really gross, flavorless organic food that sounds a lot better than it tastes. The meal from Le Pain was one of the best I've had in a while...a delicious, complex tasting goat cheese and nut arugula salad with a strong vinagrette dressing, a fresh made sandwich with homemade bread, fresh sliced ham and cheese, (gasp!) a fresh tomato, and some home made mustard that really brought everything together. Then we had a chocolate bomb that was spectacular. Usually with desserts you see in a bakery case, they look great and taste awful. This was melt in your mouth heaven. We fought over it! I can't say much about the ambience there, but the food (for those of you who do takeout) was top notch. Lots of restaurants have the pretense in their menus, but the food doesn't live up to it. They really made an effort with this meal to put their money where my mouth is!

My husband and I have breakfast there once in a while. Really good bread selection. The soups are great too. But it is sometimes too busy.
