    Best Hoagie Ever

    Posted by DaveJK on 12/20/2008

The hoagies here are awesome and deserve more than one review. I have been eating at Planet Hoagie for years. They are an offshoot of a deli where I used to get sandwiches when I lived in South Philly, and when I discovered the same quality sandwiches so close to my new home in Delco I almost wept with joy. This sandwiche shouldn't even be called a hoagie, because you've been eating hoagies all your life and yet you've never had hoagies like _this_ before! They start with real, South Philly-style hoagie rolls which in and of itself sets their sandwiches apart from the crowd's. These are freshly baked Italian-style crusty rolls. If you've ever tried real South Philly rolls then you already know how good these rolls are! The rolls are stuffed with a bewildering array of high-quality ingredients, depending on which of the huge variety of sandwiches you choose. My wife always gets their Eggplant Verdura, which is eggplant, broccoli rabe, roasted red peppers, and sharp provolone. I get the tuna inferno, which is Italian brand tuna, pepper cheese, blend of spices. They do not add mayo to their tuna, but you can ask for mayo on your sandwich if you want it (I never do). I always get them to add lots of hot peppers, which they gladly do, and then I have the most delicious tuna hoagie you can imagine. My daughter loves the Italian, which is simply prosciutto, provolone, capacola, and genoa salami but everything is so fresh and on such a delicious roll that even the classic hoagie is a different dish when it comes from this place. I have often gone to them for platters of sandwiches to serve crowds. They make an assortment of their sandwiches, then slice them into approximately 1/2 inch slices, to serve as finger foods to guests. They are always popular, which is why I often go there for party platters.

Everything a GOOD sandwich should be!

This is the first time I ever posted a message about ANYTHING...yes, I thought it was that GOOD! I love sandwiches and most hoagies are usually all about the same...some are good, some are better. I was stuck in Media yesterday for jury duty and did NOT want to spend $8.95 on a burger and Zac's was too busy. I'm a life-long resident of Delaware Co and have had "Mom & Pop", deli, corner-store hoagies all my life (and I'm no youngster). And forget Subway! I know a great tasting sandwich! Walking along State Street, I stumbled onto (into) Planet Hoagie. I chose a "Santini" which is their Italian with sharp provolone in place of regular provolone with a selection of the best Italian meats I have had. Most all the sandwiches are "named" with the huge variety of hoagies being different combos of meats and cheeses (GOOD meats and cheeses!) Well, my lunch was a huge, pleasant surprise. I ordered a "medium" which is actually a half of a large roll...a seeded, crusty, man's roll...no whimpy, soggy, fall apart roll. I just finished it as I write this...a medium being too much for me for one lunch. And that roll did not "sog out" over-night. Try it. You will not be disappointed. Mom & Pop...watch out! Best thing about jury duty: Planet Hoagie! I guess I'll need to find reasons to drive out to Media more often...Planet Hoagie: good food, competitive prices. These are franchised stores. If all the locations are this good, I'm buying their stock!
