    Really?!

While I haven’t used this particular emergency vet (I wasn’t even aware that this place existed), I am compelled to comment on the post by brenda53. First, I am so sorry for your loss. Next I’d like to give Webster’s definition of the word emergency: an unforseen combination of circumstances or the resulting state that calls for IMMEDIATE action an URGENT need for assistance or relief To clarify further, Webster defines urgent: a calling for IMMEDIATE action Was the criteria in any of the definitions met? Not even in the loosest sense! How does this facility consider itself an “Emergency and Critical Care Clinic”? If no staff are there to even answer the phone, no doctor IMMEDIATELY available to see a patient, then who, if anyone, is there taking care of those pets who need ‘critical care’? In asking brenda53 to “wait for someone to call back” the idea that this place is an emergency clinic is completely negated. I think it is a gross misrepresentation of the sevices offered and implied by the name. brenda53, I don’t know how you chose this facility (internet, phone book, your vet, etc.), but for future reference there is a local emergency hospital with a vet and staff actually in the hospital during their posted open hours (all night and all weekend). Based on the address given for the clinic you had the misfortune of calling, the other emergency hospital is located only about a mile south on Old Moultrie. It’s called Animal Emergency Hospital of St John’s County. (They occupy the building where the florist used to be, if that gives you a better frame of reference.) I realize the info is too little too late, and again, I’m so sorry you went through the horror that you did. Hopefully you’ll never need an emergency vet again, but at least now you have another, better option. My prayers are with you.

that is aweful to hear!!! I just moved here from PA and was looking into hospitals in town. How rediculous. I can't even imagine, if that had been my maltese :( I know what you mean about the way that they steal your heart and become a part of your family. I wish you didn't have to go through that, but I am thankful that you posted your experience so others can know better than 2 go there.

    VERY UNHAPPY!

    Posted by brenda53 on 10/12/2008

VERY UNHAPPY! * First off I called the vet's office to find that I had to leave a message and wait for someone to call me back. My 4 pound yorkie had been attacked by a pittbull and was bleeding everywhere. I didn't know what to do, the last thing I wanted to do was wait! There wasn't even a human being there that could help me over the phone. When I did receive a phone call back my yorkie was barely moving. I went to the hospital to wait on someone to show up that could help my baby... it was too late... no one made it there before he stopped moving. He died in my arms before anyone even showed up. I don't understand why there was no one that could help save my precious baby. I have been so upset, I know that if someone had been there he could have pulled through. When the vet decided to show up (45minutes after my phone call), they wanted to charge me a TON of money just to take care of his body. I took max home and gave him a proper burial, I couldn't stand the idea of such heartless people having him, they couldn't get there in time to save him and then wanted to charge me to take his body.... it's not fair, it's disgusting! I ended up doing some research on the vet and found that he has repeatedly been under investigation and has been charged numerous times for things like this, even to the point of having his license being questioned. I wish I had known this, maybe max wouldn't have died. Some emergency hospital!
