    Be informed

Although I understand many of the concerns about your offered treatment at this particular office periodontal disease is a "silent disease" that nearly 70% of american suffer from. A simple cleaning (prophy) without a deep scaling and root planning will not clean the bacteria/plaque that has created the deep pockets around your teeth. A full mouth probing will only determine what your periodontal class is. Any pockets around a tooth that is 5 mm or greater and that bleeds when the dentist probes in general means that the specific area will need a deep scale to remove the harmful bacteria and hopefully get the pockets back to 3 mm or less. There are one or two exceptions on that but I will let you do your own research. Please also check out the ADA (Ameican Dental Association) website to learn how periodontal disease is diagnosed by dentists so you can make an informed choice on your treatment and not just go with the cheapest option.

    Stay Away From Monarch Dental

    Posted by JFB1 on 08/10/2009

Stay away from Monarch Dental or risk being forced to pay for unnecessary treatments. After a gum exam I was told a standard teeth cleaning would not be done unless I paid $650 for periodontal treatments (the amount not covered by the insurance). I had been going to a dentist in another state every 6 months for 13 years and knew my gums did not need the treatments. I went to another dentist who confirmed my gums were in good shape and the treatments were not needed. Be aware this corporation also has dental offices with the names Bright Now, Castle, and Newport who may be running the same scam.

    Gums the Word!!!!!!!

Both my husband and 24 yr old daughter went to this office for routine exam and cleaning. Both were told basically the same thing; they needed a special proceedure immediately or they would end up losing their teeth. We had insurance, but even with the insurance the cost would be around 600.00. Both were told they had advanced periodontal disease. This was after a very hurried periodontal exam. I work for Baylor College of Dentistry. The only reason we went to Monarch was that, although BCD is excellent and very reasonable, it does take quite a bit of time since a student is assigned to you. Nevertheless, my husband and daughter went to BCD for a second opinion. They were told that all they really needed was a good cleaning, that they did not have any serious problems whatsoever. The instructor who examined my daughter (not a student, but a periodontist who teaches graduate students) told her that Monarch had "sold her a bill of goods" I was so angry that I contacted the State of Texas Board of Medical Examiners. The reason I am writing this is because I read some of the other reviews about this office and they are very similar. Bottom line--if you leave there with a bad feeling and the estimated cost of treatment is very high, then get a second opinion.

    TERRIBLE COMPANY

    Posted by LaurenAliBaba on 07/13/2009

They will not schedule you for a cleaning on the day of your first exam. "Company policy" They want you to come in for an exam "to be sure you don't have preio-dontal disease first." Even last time I was there they commented over and over how it did not seem like I had not had a cleaning in three years, they still will not make an exception for me because it has been two. I only have insurance two more weeks, and they never have cleaning appointments more than two months out. I am totally screwed. I will never use another Monarch Dental office. DO NOT PUT YOURSELF IN A SIMILAR SITUATION.

    Absolutely dreadful!

You walk into get your teeth cleaned and there are all sorts of dental things on the room with you that have prices on them, it felt like a flea market. Then the lady comes in, looks at your mouth and says "Your mouth requires a special cleaning that isn't covered by your insurance." I took my bib off and left, went to another dentist and there was no problem. Also, not that this is the dentist's fault, but if you only speak english you won't be able to communicate with very many people in the waiting room. I really thought I might be getting "punked" the experience was so bad.

    Watch your wallet!

I went in for a first visit and they said I needed several thousand dollars worth of work. I went for a second opinion at Highland Dental and they said I needed a cleaning and to floss more. The dentist seemed nice enough, but his assistant was disinterested at best, as were the other workers.

Go to a REAL dentist's office and save yourself some grief.

I was having wisdom tooth issues and needed a place in a hurry, so I opted for Monarch. The receptionists and employees all came off as cold and disinterested. I felt like a burden the second I walked in the door. The x-ray tech couldn't seem to get my x-rays to come out anything but blank, so this alone prolonged my visit my a good 45 minutes-mind you that I was in extreme pain this entire time. They got my insurance information all confused and were trying to tell me barely anything was covered when I know better. I got home that morning and called the insurance myself and they told me I was covered for everything they told me I needed done-and then some, so I have no idea how they screwed that up so badly and got me completely stressed out for nothing. I was referred to an oral surgeon through them, but decided to go with a friend's recommendation. I have called their office twice trying to get my x-rays to bring to the surgeons office, but they haven't returned my calls! The surgeons office told me flat-out that most dental offices will call me back and give me the x-rays with no problem..but Monarch for some reason always gives the patients a hard time. I wish I had never wasted my time. I could have already had my wisdom teeth out and been on my way to recovery.
