    HAMBURGERS

    Posted by treasuretrover1 on 08/31/2008

I love hamburgers. I moved to Story County from Chicago a few months ago and I could not find a decent hamburger in the area. Then a lady I work with told me about a little diner in Boone. I drove over there on a Saturday. I walked into a diner, but it didn't look like I was expecting it to look. I realized I was in the wrong place, so I left. I drove around a little more and I found a sign that said Dixie's Diner. Just seeing the inside of the place is a good reason to go. It rocks! I ordered the Dixie Burger. It was huge. They put everything I wanted on the hamburger. I had fried onions, chopped onions, pickle relish, cheese, lettuce, mayo, tomato and pickles. It was served in a basket and the burger was so big that the cook put the chips and pickle on a plate. I couldn't open my mouth wide enough to take a bite. I had a fork, so I used that. What a great hamburger. Then, I had a treat I haven't tasted since I was a kid. I had a rice krispy bar-made with peanut butter and it had chocolate on the top. It is just like my mom made when I was a boy. What a tasty treat and a fun place to eat. The diner is sparkling clean and done up in 1950's style. There is lots of chrome, red and black inside the diner. The bathrooms are really clean, too. The server was well trained and looked really pretty in her poodle skirt. Dixie, the owner came out of the kitchen and talked to me. She is a really nice lady. I will be back!

It's like going back in time!

I went to Boone on a Saturday in late July. I was looking for a place to eat and I saw a sign down on the end of main street that read Dixie's Diner 910 9th St. I looked in both directions and I couldn't see a bigger sign, so I started walking. About a half a block east of main street, I found the cutest little diner ever, tucked away in the end of this huge building. It was painted red and white and had red tables and chairs sitting outside. I walked in and stood in the entryway for about 5 minutes, looking at all of the 1950s pictures. There was even a hula hoop hanging on the wall. I stepped inside the diner and heard the rock and roll playing, the old Schwinn bike hanging from the ceiling, the black vinyl records hanging on the wall. It was great. Then, around the corner came this beautiful young woman dressed in a red poodle skirt outfit. She came up to me and told me her name and seated me. I had to try one of the burgers so I had the third lb angus beef burger. It came in a red basket with chips and pickles and it was served with a smile. The burger was delicious. Huge, juicy with a slice of deep red tomato and lettuce on top. I also had a chocolate malt. It was served in one of those glass malt glasses like I remember from when I was a kid. I loved the whole experience. The food was delicious and met all of my expectations. It was like going back in time.
