Did we just get the worst server or has this restaurant changed?
Posted by FT2252 on 01/23/2009
Anxious to show off a neighborhood restaurant to friends/associates for a casual, business dinner, I suggested Katsuya (the reviews were outstanding - couldn't wait). They were busy but not completely full. We had to ask for menus and we shared 2 for the four of us. We were in no hurry but didn't know who our server was (and we had made reservations). After one hour (I looked at my watch), someone from our table stood up to ask if there was someone to take our order. Our server came, took our order but I could see our friends were very unimpressed with the restaurant and were reluctant to order anything but a cooked dinner. Had I not read reviews, I would have been skeptical to order raw fish as well...pretty poor first impression. We had no napkins or eating utensils. They did bring some paper napkins and chopsticks when asked but other tables had cloth napkins. Did they just run out? Food was good but my salad was delivered 10 minutes after the rest of our party received their food and the server never did bring my miso. There was never an apology or explanation. The experience was so disappointing and for me embarrasing. When we first arrived, our friends talked with anticipation about other wonderful experiences at sushi restaurants...too bad this wasn't one of them.

Probably the best Japanese restaurant in town
Posted by Kollawat on 12/01/2008
I went there for lunch. It's worth every penny! The test is excellent, foods are fresh, and the place is in good hygiene. In addition, I don't have to wait for too long to get foods. The waitress and staffs are polite. And, the price is reasonable.
All in all, this reataurant will change your mind-set that a good japanese reataurant doesn't have to be freaking expensive!

Best Sushi in Town and not ridiculously expensive like some of the downtown places.

I've been looking for a good Sushi joint and this is it. Great cuts, great service, this place is really good and I have yet to get a "fishy" piece of sushi. If I had to complain about anything, it would be that I have to drive pretty far to get there but....it's totally worth it, every time.

Best Sushi in Denver by far
Posted by chn2000 on 07/01/2008
I have eaten at sushi joints all over the world. I have been eating at this place since the day it opened. The first time that I stepped foot inside, the manager greeted me and was very nice and outgoing. We got to talking and he ended up serving me my meal. I sat at the sushi bar, and was immediately indulged in excellent service. EVERYTHING in this place is good, from the miso soup to the Toro. The seafood is fresh and prepared as if it were an art-form. The presentation far exceeds anywhere around here. I eat there twice a week now! A must try!

Incredibly Fresh!

Katsuya has such a wonderful ambiance and welcoming atmosphere- You're greeted by the whole staff as soon as you walk through the door! If seats at the bar are available, definitely have a seat if you want to see some real talent. The quality and freshness is next to none and I highly recommend trying this place out! Get there before 6:00 to enjoy the 2 for 1 authentic sake bombers!!!

AWESOME Sushi!!!

Didn't have high expectations in Aurora for Sushi, but found a diamond in the rough. Best Rainbow Roll I've ever had, and excellent Volcano Roll as well. I'm a believer, and am now a frequent customer. You've got to try this!

Good and plenty plus Friendly and no wait!

Work mates have raved about Sushi Katsuya, so last week I had lunch there.
I got seated and pleasantly greeted immediately.
With such vast sushi choices, it will take me a while to try it all. I am adventurous when I know the chef is this good, but not everything is going to be your favorite!
The Havana roll was generous in portion, but soggy in result. The tempura quick fry lost it's crunch under the chopped scallop mix.
Young is always finding new presentations, just look at the number of unique selections.
I wish happy hours extended earlier though.

Unbelieveable variety, quality, creativity and service!
Posted by kpcloud9 on 03/15/2008
After moving to Denver from Florida more than a year ago I have been on a mission to find sushi like what I was used to on the coast. My search is over.
The staff is friendly and the sushi chefs have talent and creativity. The sushi menu is the largest in variety as well as the types of fish offered that I've found in this area. I found both my favorite roll and tuna tataki that I have been searching for and couldn't find at any of the top sushi restaurants in town.
The food was phenomenal, atmosphere pleasant, staff very welcoming, and the preparation and creative presentation is top of the line. (You know you are at a good ethnic restaurant when half of the dinners are of that ethnicity.)
We sat at the sushi bar and watched the chef create fruit sculptures for diners. He made a panda from an orange and a peacock from and apple for a table with kids. He also shaped our wasabi like a jalape?o pepper and topped it with a real pepper stem.
We will return very soon as this restaurant has definitely earned our admiration. Katsuya only opened 5 months ago so don't over look this new addition!
