Martin Center provides the following services to families impacted by Sickle Cell Disease or Trait. CLIENT & FAMILY SUPPPORT SERVICES We offer the following services to our clients in need: IEP/504 Assistance Monthly Support Group Meetings Home and Hospital visitation Food Pantry/Gatorade Scholarships (for high school seniors and undergraduate students) Parent Empowerment Program (PEP) REFERRAL SERVICES Housing Referral Physician Referrals Social Services Government Assistance GED Continuing Education OUTREACH AND ADVOCACY Martin Center, Inc. strives to inform the community about Sickle Cell Disease/Trait and other abnormal hemoglobin conditions through: Public Awareness Educational Presentations Health Fairs HEALTH EDUCATION Our program promotes an understanding of SCD and related blood conditions through free community education. Our staff will explain how it is inherited, what the symptoms are, and dispel some of the common myths about Sickle Cell. Did you know… SCD affects all ethnic groups. SCD affects about 95,000 people in the US. SCD is hereditary NOT contagious. NEWBORN SCREENING We work with the Indiana State Department of Health to educate primary care physicians and new mothers about SCT. Did you know… Newborns are tested for over 26 genetic disorders including Sickle Cell with in the first 48 hours of birth. If a newborn has tested positive for abnormal hemoglobin, the primary care physician and mother are notified and provided with Sickle Cell resource information.
