Ophthalmology

Macular Degeneration
There are two types of Macular Degeneration: “dry AMD” or non-neovascular and “wet AMD” or neovascular. Dry AMD makes up 85 to 90 percent of the two types, and wet AMD being 10 to 15 percent.

Cataracts
In most cases floaters do not require treatment. If they become very dense that they are significantly affecting your vision, the vitreous gel can be removed and replaced with a salt solution. Patients do not notice any difference in the salt solution and vitreous gel. This is a procedure that doctors are reluctant to do because there are significant risks including cataracts, retinal tears and retinal detachment.
Cataract Surgery
Clarity Eye Group’s state-of-the-art offices are home to some of the best surgeons performing cataract surgery in Orange County / Huntington Beach. In addition to offering cataracts surgery with premium IOLs, such as Crystalens, ReStor and Tecnis Multifocal, these surgeons specialize in treating a variety of eyelid conditions. Eye Exam
Astigmatism is diagnosed through a comprehensive eye examination with an optometrist or ophthalmologist. An exam usually includes a visual acuity test using an eye chart as well as the use of special instruments to measure the cornea’s curvature and evaluate how the eye focuses light. The information gathered during the exam helps our doctors determine whether you have astigmatism and if so, the power of lens correction needed for clearer vision.

Diabetic Retinopathy
A very common disease in the United States, diabetes is the leading cause of blindness in adults under the age of 65. Diabetic Retinopathy is a disease of the blood vessels in the delicate tissue called the retina. (The retina acts like film in a camera and does the actual sensing of the light within the eye). With diabetic retinopathy, retinal vessels become incompetent and leak fluid and blood, thus failing to supply the nutrients necessary for good health in the retina.

Ultrasound
Step 1 – A small incision is made in the cornea of the eye. The blurry lens is broken up with ultrasound energy and removed from the eye.

General Surgery
Dr. Freeman has lived in Southern California all his life. He completed his undergraduate studies in Public Health at UCLA, receiving a B.S. degree in 1971. The highlight if his time at UCLA was being a starting guard on the undefeated freshman basketball team. He continued in Medical School at UCLA, obtaining his MD degree in 1975. After a general surgery internship at Harbor-UCLA in Torrance, he moved to Long Beach in 1976 to begin his Ophthalmology residency at UC Irvine. In 1979 he received his Eye Specialty Certification and went on to do a fellowship in cataract surgery and lens implants in Arizona with one of the World’s leading eye surgeons. He became a certified Fellow of the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1980.

Dr. Fahd also performs state-of-the art lens implantation to help patients over 40 years old see far and close up without glasses using multifocal lenses (ReSTOR®, Crystalens, and Technis). In addition, Dr. Fahd performs no-stitch pterygium surgery using TISSEEL glue. He also performs facial cosmetic surgical procedures, including BOTOX® Cosmetics, no-stitch eyelid surgery and Skin Dermal fillings.
Brow Lift
By removing excess skin and pockets of fat from the upper and lower eyelids, our Orange County eyelid surgery specialists can reduce sagging and even improve the appearance of tired or puffy-looking eyes. Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery is intended to improve the appearance of the eyelids, giving the eyes a more youthful, rested and pleasant expression. During the surgery, excess skin is removed, the tissues are tightened and displaced fat is restored to the correct position to create more attractive eyelids.
Blepharoplasty
Upper blepharoplasty addresses drooping upper eyelids. A hooding effect is created when extra skin and fat accumulate just above the eyes, which pushes down on the upper eyelids and makes it more difficult for them to open completely. In addition to removing excess tissue, this surgery also tightens eyelid muscles that become weaker with age to further improve their ability to keep the eyes open for a younger appearance.
Cosmetic Surgery
Blepharoplasty is a cosmetic surgery that addresses unwanted signs of aging around the eyes. Lower eyelid surgery deals with the skin just beneath the eye to treat the dark circles that make a person look tired. Upper eyelid surgery handles the fat and loose skin just above the eye that pushes down on the upper eyelid and causes it to droop. Both procedures provide for long-lasting facial rejuvenation.

Psoriasis
Iritis is a descriptive term for an inflammatory disorder of the colored part of the eye (iris). Sometimes iritis is just one symptom of a disease that affects other organ systems: arthritis and spinal degenerative disease, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, lupus, and other collagen vascular diseases, bowel disturbances such as ulcerative colitis and regional enteritis, sarcoid, and certain other very rare infections. Most often, however, iritis appears by itself.
