Dr. Zamani's office

After having two rool canals done this month, I did not have the same experience as some of the others responding here. I found Dr. Zamani to take care what I came to him for. Both procedures were done proficiently and professionally. He does have a business like approach, which means he was not quite conversational. I took this as part of what went along with the oral surgery-nature of his work. When I did have a question or looked for explanations, he came in sat down and explained it thoroughly and understandably. His staff did a professional job of complimenting his practice by being quite responsive with converations, etc. My appointment was delayed twice due to emergencies that came through door from other practices. This morning I have my own minor concern and they took me in immediately.
Dr. Zamani's was on the dentist list with my insurance company.
I would have no problem returning or referring to his office.

Horrible

First, Zamani does not allow me to pick up prescriptions day before because he assumes I'm an addict. I'm a finance professiona, had dental procedures done before and after, this is the ONLY time that has happened. So after the surgery, I have to drive myself to pharmacy with a fresh surgical wound, wait for the rx to get filled before finally getting home. And btw, he did not call it in until 15-20 min after I get there. It took over an hour, thanks for nothing.

Secondly, he insists on doing procedure on additional tooth, even though I only have a problem with one specific tooth. I specifically tell him not to and he does so anyways.

Third, after he sutured the incision, it does not heel properly, he tries to blame the patient.

2 years later, the tooth he was not suppose to touch has another problem, he suggests there's a root fracture and extraction + implant is needed. (X-Ray does not show it, he just says you can't always see it - *keep reading)

I go to another dentist who says the tooth looks okay as far as an extraction is concerned and recommends another endodontist. They take normal X-Ray (which like the one at Zamani doesn't show signs of fracture), suggest a 3-D X-Ray to get a better look. (Zamani does not even offer the additional 3-D X-Ray, he thinks he knows everything) New endodontist goes in and what do you know? No fracture.

Go find another endodontist, there are plenty in Houston. He might be a decent surgeon (although I don't think he is any better than any other endodontist), but he is the stereotypical Dr lacking communication skills and thinks he 's better than the patient. Had I listened to this guy, I would have gotten a tooth extracted (unnecessarily based on an uninformed opinion of a Dr who should be only giving informed opinions) and had to get an implant put in (also unnecessary).

Go find someone else, especially if you're a patient that has a very good understanding of your health and are self-aware of your body.

Round 3

I've already had 2 root canals on the same tooth. I was told I needed another one so I'm going to find a different endodontist.

Several successful root canals from Dr. Z

I have so many root canals my dental X-rays look like the Mississippi Delta. One ? the only? ? good thing to come of this is that I found an excellent endodontist in the process. Anthony Zamani. The guy is an artist - I experience almost no pain - and he is fast. In fact I put a stopwatch on him once ? with his knowledge ? and he finished off a simple one-canal treatment in about 20 minutes.

It takes rather longer to do the complicated treatment associated with molars which may have as many as four channels. The piped classical music helps ? nothing like Vivaldi?s Four Seasons to make you forget that your jaw has been splayed open for 40 minutes plus?

Which brings me to the downside to being on first name basis with an endodontist. The money, as in plenty of mine becoming his. Endodontists don?t work for peanuts. They work for Chateau Margaux. I've probably paid several installments on Dr. Zamani?s Maserati. But seriously it is worth every penny. He uses all Zeiss equipment to peer into those microscopically small channels inside you teeth. He calls you afterwards to check on your well-being. And I've never waited overly long to get in either. Except maybe one time.

went there twice for one root canal procedure

I went to dr. zamani for my first root canal. i went for two different visits.

the receptionist at the front desk when I first visited was curt, and I left with a feeling that I bothered her. The second visit, the receptionist lady had changed, and she was very nice.

The dental hygienist/assistant(?) that I saw both times was a young Asian lady, and she was great. Can't say enough good things about her.

On my first visit, when Dr Zamani initally came in to talk to me, he seemed a little bit like he was in a hurry. And then I told him that I was scared, and when I said that he slowed down and really explained things. He was really nice, and I could tell that he was concerned that I was apprehensive and wanted me to feel more at ease.

Despite building it up in my head, the procedure had very little pain. I was surprised at how painless it was. I guess each person has their own experiences depending on their problem, but mine was good. I didn't have any pain afterwards. Because of this, I think that dr. zamani is very technically sound.

My second trip was short and quick, with no problems. Same dental hygienist(?), who was great, and dr. zamani was short and sweet. He did call after this visit, which didn't happen after the first. I think that's a great thing to do, to show patients that he cares b/c that certainly takes a lot of time and effort out of his personal life. however, it would be more meaningful if he were a little more talkative during the visit.

Overall, I'm satisfied. If I had to do it all over again, I would choose to go to dr. zamani above any other endodontist.

the best? not for me

I was told I needed two root canals. They could not do both at same time due to one upper and one lower. A price was quoted for both. When I called to schedule the second they quoted me a higher price saying I had to pay another exam fee. Don't feel this is fair. Any comment?

what I reallly feel...

After my root canal, air was sprayed into my new root canal to dry it. It sent me up the wall, but the dr. said ""oh no, you couldn't be feeling anything."" Excuse me, but 3 months later, that tooth STILL hurts when I eat.

Advanced Endodontics

Dr. Zamani provided a pain free root canal for me. I was numb in 5 minutes, where others took 30 -45. He completed the root canal in the morning and I was on a flight to California that evening with very little discomfort. He called me after both procedures to check on me. I was impressed.

Dr. that calls to see how you are doing

I just had to go to Dr. Zamani for a root canal and I was very impressed. My tooth barely even gave me discomfort after the procedure. I've had to go a second time so they could finish up the procedure and both times he has called me afterwards to see how I was doing. You don't see much of that anymore, so I highly recommend him for his work, comfort of the procedure, and genuine concern.
