We attended a couple services at this church, but when I saw I woman preacher I emailed one of them inquiring about how they reconciled this with 1 Timothy 2:12 And I do not permit a woman to teach or have authority over a man, but to be in silence. She told me she would talk to the pastor and get back with me. We corresponded 3 times since then and I'm still waiting.
I have attended this church on each of my visit to Houston. I watch it each Sunday and on Wednesday night via of the world wide net and I have grown closer to through the Lord as a result. I have and will continue to recommend this church to others. Pastor Cosby is truly a blessings to others.
I have attended and been a member of Wheeler Avenue Baptist church since 2000 when I moved to Houston. I have been blessed in so many ways, that words can't began to describe. Through the ministry of Rev. Lawson and Rev. Crosby, I have learned more about God than I have my entire life. I thank God that I am able to be refreshed, renewed each time I enter and leave the church..\r
God directed me to Houston, and I've found loving and supportive friends who I consider family now. The...view morere are varies ministry to get involved in, to allow you to use the talents that God has given. \r

unlike private58 i dont have a problem with the church.i wish they would read their message and see that they contradicted themselves on one hand they said if you dont drive a lex you are not welcome then they said the only type of people that goes here are low income . they are not mad with wheeler they are mad with God.if you didnt have a problem with dr wright 4 years ago why now
If you want to visit this church fine, but I would most certainly not join. I was a member of this church for 17 years but in the last two years my attendance has decreased. The Pastor Emeritus (a wonderful individual) founded this church and it was a decent congregation up until he retired about 4 years ago. Many members who had been there for years left and now the church is consumed with young people only attending church to ""get over"" on older members who don't have anything eith...view moreer. The members and Ministers (with the exception of the Pastor Emeritus and Minister of Music) have no respect for anyone but themselves. If you do not drive a Lexus or a member of a Black Greek-lettered organization or have money you can forget about receiving any respect from anyone here. I happened to drive a Toyota Camry but I have a VERY nice 4 bedroom home in Missouri City, Texas and work as a Financial Aid Advisor at one of the local Universities and they treated me and my family like trash. The church is a complete and total charade filled with selfish arrogant people who either do not work or have low paying jobs. There is more to this church than anyone can imagine. All I can say is please stay away and find another church. If you are willing to give a Catholic church a chance try St. Mary's which is an African American Catholic Church not too far from Wheeler or visit Antioch Church which is located in Downtown Houston. These churches tend to be less superficial and focus more on the Lord than materialistic items.\r
Update: Oh I forgot to add that the controversial preacher Jeremiah Wright (Barack Obama's former pastor) has been visiting the church every year for the last 20 years. He recently made a visit on August 31, 2008.view less
