Dental Examination
After the comprehensive examination and evaluation, one of our professional and knowledgeable dental hygienists will perform a comprehensive cleaning. Professional cleanings are recommended to be given twice a year to prevent cavities and identify any oral health issues as early as possible. A professional cleaning supplements the oral hygiene you maintain at home.
X-rays

Teeth Cleaning
A comprehensive dental exam and cleaning are recommended twice-yearly for children and adults. During your initial dental examination at Vickers Family Dental, our staff will take full mouth X-rays to ensure the health of your gums, teeth, and jaw. X-rays will not be required at every visit, and Dr. Vickers will discuss whether new X-rays will be required.
Fluoride Treatment
While it is recommended that adults brush three times a day and floss once a day, many patients only brush their teeth twice a day and floss less than once a day. A professional cleaning twice a year by one of our dental hygienists includes a polishing and a fluoride treatment to prevent cavities and protect teeth from decay.

Fillings
Resin Composite
Composite bonding is the most versatile and effective way to aesthetically restore your smile. Composite materials are used to replace old unattractive fillings, change the color of your teeth, or reshape and recontour a less than ideal smile. Composite resin is a tooth-colored plastic mixture filled with glass (silicon dioxide). Composite fillings have a slightly higher rate of wear than your traditional silver fillings.
Veneers
Veneers are ultra-thin sculpted pieces of tooth-shaped porcelain that fit over the front of your teeth. They are wonderful for fixing teeth that are significantly discolored, chipped, pitted, malformed, or crooked, or if you have unwanted spaces. In certain situations, a change in upper lip fullness and balance can be obtained by placing porcelain laminate veneers on your four front teeth. Dr. Vickers has performed many transformations using this cosmetic procedure and uses the same lab seen in televisions Extreme Make-Over series.
Crowns
A crown, also known as a ‘cap’, is an artificial cover that protects the top of a damaged tooth. It can be used to help restore or preserved a broken, decayed, or cracked tooth. Crowns can also be used as cosmetic enhancements.
Bridges
Bridges are useful as corrective measures after an accident or serious dental decay. These restorations-generally made of porcelain material are used to replace missing teeth Bridges are a method to restore your bite and create a pleasant smile. It also takes a great deal of time to both prepare the area and affix the bridge once it comes back from the lab. Fixed bridges are placed on the neighboring teeth, so they span the site of the missing tooth. The bridge is fitted with ceramic teeth to replicate the missing teeth, to restore function, and aesthetics.
Dental Bonding

Root Canal Treatment
The pulp and remaining tissue are carefully removed from the pulp chamber and root canal(s). Each root canal is cleaned and shaped to allow it to be filled.

Dentures
Dentures are removable appliances that can replace missing teeth and help restore your smile. If you’ve lost all of your natural teeth, whether from gum disease, tooth decay or injury, replacing missing teeth will benefit your appearance and your health. That’s because dentures make it easier to eat and speak better than you could without teeth—things that people often take for granted.
Overdentures
Sometimes some of your teeth can be saved to preserve your jawbone and provide stability and support for the denture. An overdenture fits over a small number of remaining natural teeth after they have been prepared by your dentist. Implants can serve the same function, too.

Dental Implants
The fixture is that part of the implant that’s embedded in and becomes fused with the jawbone. It’s the portion that lies below the gum line and, for all practical purposes, can be considered to be an artificial tooth root.

Oral Surgery
No smoking. Tobacco is an irritant to healing tissue. Please refrain from smoking as long as possible, preferably for a week. Smoking after oral surgery is the leading cause of “Dry Socket”.
Tooth Extractions

Teeth Whitening
Your dentist can whiten teeth dramatically using various forms of whitening techniques. One form, carbamide peroxide, is most often used in the form of a gel, and placed into a special tray that is custom-fitted to your teeth. The tray is usually worn in the mouth overnight for ten days. When in contact with the teeth, the carbamide peroxide releases oxygen that releases the stain on your teeth. This process is safe and effective with only a few temporary side effects. This treatment can be applied at home under periodic supervision by your dentist.
