Urinary Incontinence
Among other teaching appointments, Dr. Maislos is a national proctor for Intuitive Surgical for whom he is qualified to teach urologists all over the nation his techniques in the field of robotic assisted laparoscopic prostatectomies. He also is a proctor for Boston Scientific and teaches other physicians how to place minimally invasive slings for female urinary incontinence.

Urology
Dr. Steven Maislos, M.D. completed his undergraduate education at Yale University, his medical training at University of Texas Medical School at Houston and his residency in urology at State University of New York at Downstate- affiliated with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He also completed a fellowship in robotic, laparoscopic, and minimally invasive urologic surgery at Urology San Antonio. Currently he is in private practice in Houston at the Urology Institute of Houston. He treats men, women, and children for a wide variety of general and specialized urologic ailments. His specialty interest is in minimally invasive theraputic options for urologic diseases.
Prostate Cancer
Robotic Assisted Laparoscopic Prostatectomy (RALP) is a relatively new technique for removing a prostate. A robotic prostatectomy has numerous advantages over other treatment modalities for prostate cancer. The advantages of a robotic prostatectomy include less blood loss, smaller incisions, 10 X magnification, a 3-D image for more accurate resection, a more precise and water tight anastamosis, better visualization and potentially better preservation of the nerve bundles, a shorter hospital stay, and a quicker restarting of daily activties.

Ultrasound
Dr. Maislos is able to remove the whole kidney or part of the kidney as needed using a pure laparoscopic approach. Other options include laparoscopic cryoablation where he exposes the lesion laparoscopically and then freezes it using ultrasound guidance. In addition, he also offers radiofrequency ablation of renal lesions to select patients.
Computed Tomography
Other advanced urologic cases for which Dr. Maislos has fellowship trainning include robotic pyeloplasty, laparoscopic nephrectomy, laparoscopic partial nephrectomy, laparoscopic cryoablation of renal tumors, laparoscopic renal cyst unroofing, CT scan guided radiofrequency ablation of renal tumors, and cryoablation of the prostate. Futhermore, he has special trainning with green light laser, holmium laser, and microwave therapy of the prostate for BPH (an enlarged/obstructing prostate.)

Dr. Maislos has also been on the cutting edge of endourologic research. He has published abstracts, papers, and videos on topics including stone cone ureteroscopy, dual deflexion ureteroscopy, and laparoscopic cryoablation of kidney tumors. In fact, he has presented his research at numerous World Congress in Endourology where leaders in the field of urology present the latest techniques in robotics, laparoscopy, and minimally invasive urologic surgery. He is also a principal investigator in several clinical trials and is a national speaker on behalf of several pharmaceutical companies.

Laparoscopic Surgery
Laparoscopic surgery involves insuflating the abdominal cavity with gas in order to open up a space where one is able to operate on relatively large structures through small incisions. Laparoscopic surgery has now become the standard of care for removing most kidney tumors. There are numerous laparoscopic approaches and techniques for renal surgery. Dr. Maislos has been trained in the latest laparoscopic techniques.
