Where to start. Uptown is definitely beautiful, fun for a lunch or dinner, but it is not a comfortable, friendly, restaurant. Although it is high end, my service lately has not been up to par with other nice sushi restaurants, mainly Katsuya and 400 Sage. They have a good sunomono, but I was not taken away.

The ambience is perfect!! Uptown sushi always has fresh top quality sushi. The food is consistent and great!!! The staff is very knowledgeable about the menu and can help recommend a roll. The rolls are even artistically presented. I highly recommend the Teriyaki Rib-Eye Maki for an appetizer!!! I get it everytime. It just melts in your mouth! I recently tried the Lobster and Shrimp Rolls which are perfect. Fellas it is a great date spot to take your wonderful lady!! Ladies great spot for girls nights out!! You won't be disappointed, in fact you will be BLOWN away with the great service and satisfying rolls!!!

I never write reviews, but I just had to! Uptown Sushi is my fave place to eat, and I go there at least 2x's\month. Waiters are so nice and always willing to recommend something great. Food is amazing. I recommend: Appetizer: Kobe Beef Hot Rock or the Teriyaki Rib-Eye Maki Sushi Roll: all of them are amazing, really. Also, their edamame is always perfect here. Drinks: Lychee martinis are amazing or they always have a great wine selection if that's your preference. Overall perfect place for all occasions, very classy and swanky. Love!!

Although the bar scene here has changed remarkably over the years, the food has remained consistent. The sushi is always fresh, the rolls are delish and the Lychee martini's are the best in the city. We love uptown sushi!

Though I read varying reports of the restaurant & had my guard up, it was quickly dropped from the first encounter inside the door. Very friendly staff in a non-obtrusive manner. Great decor. The sushi was excellent as was the sake (so much to choose from). The manager (very nice) stopped by our table to see how everything was, and not in the usual looking-over-your-shoulder for the next table on his ""to do list,"" but genuinely focused on us. For the price ($$), it had a great atmosphere and everyone was so down to earth. I don't care what cars were in the parking lot, this place is for everyone & worth the money!

I only want to give this place 3 stars because the service is very good, and boasts a pretty good ambiance. However the selection of sushi is not that great. Overpriced and not that great. Sorry guys!

so my tuned civic was alittle different there heh. anyway, the food was decent enough and the place was pretty cool to even have stayed for a few drinks. me and my friend were just there for a quick bite before the club and it was good enough. 3 on the food and 4 stars for the place itself.i went on a saturday at like 10pm.

I think I saw ""The Situation"" there this past Saturday. Seriously, we saw a guy flexing wearing one of those tight t-shirts with scrolls.\r \r What happened to this soft, serene lounge? Sushi places should be more Zen. It was very bridge and tunnel, and they should implement a dress code.\r \r My friend who joined us said that he had to have a drink to erase the background of the patrons. The service at the bar was good and the music was fair; however, we just stayed for one drink. The lychee martinis are their specialty. \r \r They may need to change the feng shui up a bit. They have a small TV at the bar which attracts sports fans. I like watching sports...but not when the TV emits a blue-white glow amongst the pale lighting of the restaurant. It reminds me of the glow while watching TV from bed. \r \r I doubt I will return here for the fear that I will see Snookie and her orange glow.

A good friend of mine, who is a regular (comes here once a week or once every two weeks), and I went to Uptown last night; and it's probably going to be awhile until we return again, if we ever do. Don't get me wrong: the ambiance is nice, the decor is modern, and the staff is attentive. However, there were two things that really bothered us. For the last three times we have gone here, we have found either a scale or a fish bone in our sushi/sashimi. But what really ruined our appetite was that as we were eating, a cockroach (not the ones that come from outdoors but the ones that are known for infestation) was running across our table, hiding under different plates as we attempted to catch it. Eventually, we killed it with our napkin and alerted the manager about it. The restaurant's response: Dessert is on us (as if we would want to eat any more food after seeing a roach run across our food). We stopped eating, obviously. Then, instead of comping our fish, they give us a $20 discount. Call is psychosomatic but we both felt like we had bugs on our bodies and started itching our skin. The food was quite unsettling and it was a HUGE disappointment that 1) a cockroach was scurrying across our table and food and 2) the restaurant's response was to still charge us for the sushi but compensate our disgusted appetites by discounting the total bill by $20. They could have done much better than that. What a disappointing evening.

Love this place. It has such an elegant interior that makes you feel like you're dining fine, but the prices wont bust your budget. I'm not sure what happened when blanch_69 was there, but my server was friendly & timely. I'd bring my family, friends, and even co-workers back there anytime!

I have always been a fan of this restaurant as I liked the decor and food and service were always good. You don't mind paying a bit extra if these things are good.\r \r However, it seems they are now resting on their laurels and getting plain lazy. Service was real, real slow, even though the restaurant was pretty much empty and staff were just standing around chatting. Food is not as good as other japanese restaurants yet significantly more expense (the kobe beef hot stone was $18 and you got 8 small slivers of meat - for the same price you can get a 6oz NY strip!), the snapper was over cooked and the average sushi roll is $18! \r \r The wine list is pretty basic, your usual run of the mill stuff, but all the vintages are not accurate. You order a 2005 and they try and palm you off with a 2007 for the same price. When I pointed this out they got all defensive and the manager was pretty rude with his excuses (note - not apologies).\r \r So, after being an avid fan, I am now a cynic and won't be returning.

This restaurant shoots other Houston sushi joints out of the water. The fish is the freshest in town, hands down. The other thing that keeps me coming back for more & more is the garden salad. The vegetables are as fresh as the fish, & the light flavors are perfectly & delicately balanced in everything form the miso soup to the salad & any roll you order. Good service & drink options too. This place never disappoints!

I took my family here when they came to visit me in Houston. The waitstaff was cold and aloof. They sat us next to a table of loud screaming idiots doing Sake bombs (when there were only 3 other tables filled in the entire restaurant). We waited forever to get drinks. When the overpriced rolls finally came out I was dissappointed and embarassed to see that they were small, poorly rolled, and did not have any fancy toppings or sauces (these were the 12-15 dollar rolls too). That tasted as poorly as they looked. Nothing special. I was embarassed and hungry when we left (but didn't want to waste anymore money on gross sushi). So we left and drove to Sushi King where we had a really good meal. I would recommend Sushi King, Fish, Sage 400, and Soma over this dinky little place anyday. Needless to say, I have not been nor will I ever be back to this restaurant.

Resutaurant is very nice but service is horrible. Waited forever to have order taken and then waited another 15 minutes for drinks to be delivered. The sushi is fresh but way too overpriced. I think there are way better places for a lot cheaper!

This is the best sushi I have had anywhere!!! It is worth the wait! Fun bar but loud and very crowded.\r Love the miso soup!!! Must have...\r Ambience is beautiful!

While they offer a great variety of sushi that always tastes fresh, it is not worth the experience as a whole. Service was lacking, cocktails were yummy but weak, and prices are a bit over the top. I love a hip sushi atmosphere but i couldn't even have a conversation with my date the noise level was so high. My only reason to return would be for the sushi and i can find the same elsewhere.

Sushi is fresh and decently priced. The martinis are good, but not very strong. Make a reservation because the wait for walk-ins is LONG.

I used to defend Uptown too anyone who said Azuma is better. I used to live across the street and eat here multiple times a week, didn't even mind the prices because the sushi was so good. However, the past few times I have been here I was extremely disappointed. Neither the rolls nor the sushi are as large as they used to be. The last time I was there, I ordered a spicy tuna hand roll, and it was sweet with a little spice, and VERY SMALL- not much tuna. The rib eye beef rolls are still excellent, but I can't help but wondering if they will be smaller the next time I go there...and if there is a next time, it will be because I am with a group of people who out vote me or I ABSOLUTELY CRAVE one of the rolls. There are much better places for sushi in Houston!!!

If you want to be spoiled with service, lubed with lucious martinis, and of course love to dine on decadent sushi - this is the place for you! I have been to Uptown Sushi several times and it is consistently impressing me with the exceptional service, sushi, and martinis. And not to mention, the ""good scenery"" - this place attracts the pretty people! And why not with the beautiful decor (imagine crisp white curtains and clean glass with dim lighting) - and of course the aforementioned great sushi and drinks. My recommendations are the top 3 listed items on the specialty roll menu - Don Roll, 7 1/2 Roll and Red Roll. These are THE BEST sushi rols I've ever had. And believe me, I'm no rookie - I've had my fair share of sushi - this was uniquely paired, presented brilliantly, and of course delicious. My hands-down favorite is the 7 1/2 Roll - a MUST eat! :) For your cocktail - you have many sakes to choose from, the regular cocktails, but what you really must see is their long list of unique martinis! My favorite is the Mango-tini - if you love mangos like me - you will feel like you are in heaven as this is like drinking pureed mango in a glass!! And if all the food and drinks aren't good enough - the service was impeccable. Go and see for yourself!

I was very disappoint and want our money back. I believe this is not ""classic fusion"" of sushi-ya, my business friend demanded to try. Owner, chef, feeling is ""NOT JAPANESE"". Maybe Chinese or Korean
