General Info:
The Melting Pot Restaurant is where fun is cooked up fondue style. Whether you’re celebrating a birthday, anniversary, long overdue date night or celebrating with a group. We are the premier fondue restaurant, centrally located on Westheimer, providing a casually elegant dining experience and an intimate atmosphere. The relaxing four-course experience begins with a cheese fondue prepared table side and fresh salads while your entrée pot heats up. You’ll simmer a variety of meats, seafood and vegetables in the cooking style of your choice. Each morsel is hot, fresh and delicious and all entrées are accompanied by an array of dipping sauces. Chocolate fondue is the finale, served with decadent dippers. Most make reservations for the four-course dining experience but more than a few have stopped by to satisfy that cheese fondue or chocolate craving. The Melting Pot also features a great wine list, specialty cocktails and martinis.

Terrible! Took my daughter for her 15th birthday with our family . We had barely sat down when our waiter, Brian wanted us to quickly hurry and order . We had no time to study the menu! He called me sister " dude" . Very unprofessional. When I had called, I asked if they sang or anything for birthdays, they do not ( and that's fine- many restraunts don't) but was told they would write my daughters name on her desert plate . I had to ask the waiter to do this in front of my daughter - so there was no surprise . He was very arrogant as well. We paid a lot of money to eat here and at the end he never thanked us or told my daughter happy birthday. Terrible waiter I won't be back

Horrible Mother's Day

Horrible Mother's Day! Took my mother and father to the Melting Pot for Mother's Day. While we studied the menu for about 15 minutes and finally all agreed on what to order. That is when our server told us we could not order individual meals only ""The Big Night Out"" or 4 course meals. So, again we go over the menus. My husband and I decide to do the 4 course meal because it had tuna, salmon, steak, chicken, and shrimp. The Big night out had BBQ pork and Buffalo Chicken (Yuck! IN fondue?) I proceed to order and the server tells us that is old menu and grabs the menu from me and says we have to order off the other menu. I told her I didn't like anything on the Big Night Out menu and they said they would make it to our order, but they would not do Tuna even though it was listed on my menu. Fine, I was able to sub for salmon instead. I'm a member of club fondue and received a coupon good for Mother's Day Only from 12-3pm and ONLY on individual meals. ""Mom's eat free from 12noon until 3pm, Maximum discount of $20 on individual meals when two other individual meals are purchased"" We dined at 1:00pm. I present this coupon and ask her why I received this coupon if I could not order off of the individual meals. She couldn't answer and told me I would not be able to use it. What is the point of being a member if I can't use the perks?!?!? After dining and receiving the bill, I notice the gratuity had been added on there already...really on a party of 4? And the menu never stated it. I will never ever be back. The food was horrible, server was short with us when we questioned her.

Worst Ever!

The service is horrible. I DID like the food, so I went back even with the consistently bad service. This time it was the PITS! The waitress threw the plate on the table, snapped at me, and refused to wait on us. I had to ask for service from the hostess! So then a manager came and he was equally rude. Telling me that he was not going to bring excessive dippers

Good Times at the Melting Pot

I know it is corny but I love the Melting Pot. Most only thing of the Melting Pot for dates, but I have found that I have many fond memories of the Meting Pot when there have been more the 6-8 of us.
It is great we all get to chose what we want and yes when you have that many people they like to put you in your own little room, but that is ok with us. To sit around for hours enjoying your friends, laughing, eating, drinking with no worry about staying too long or having bad service. Can you think of a better way to spend an evening?

Fine, just don't take ME on a date here

Melting Pot is probably the default date spot for Houstonians that don't want to put the effort into romance. Just come here and it will all be taken care of, you can even call ahead and have flowers waiting for you at your table. If you bring someone here and you can't seal the deal, just give up, it's not gonna happen.

Few things are more fun than cooking your own meals, and when all that this cooking entails is dipping things into cheese and coq au vin, it's pretty hard to beat. The waitstaff is knowledgeable and nice; they'll take plenty of time to explain every single article on the menu if you need it. The food is pretty good, and it is plentiful, only the most hardcore of eaters will be able to finish a big night out. Take your pick from any of the menu options that you can mix and match, and I guarantee it will be good. I've yet to try anything on their menu that was short of excellent. The wine list is a little overpriced, though; more so than most places; be prepared to drop $40 on a mediocre bottle.

My main gripe with Melting Pot is that if you look at it closely, you'll get the feeling that everything about it is fake. Everything is premanufactured; from the menu to the decor, it feels almost as if Walmart had decided to start selling romantic dates; and that is enough to turn me off of it.

Melted Cheese+ Melted Chocolate = YUM!

I love this restaurant. We always get the Big Night Out, and it just feels like a special occasion. You sit in private booths and cook/dip your own food. And we usually take a good 2-3 hours. The big night out has gone up in price -- last time we went it was $84/a couple (more if you add lobster, which I think it totally not worth it). But it includes a cheese fondue, 2 specialty salads, the main course (chunks of steak, pork, chicken, shrimp, and veggies that you deep fry or boil), and chocolate fondue. If you join the fondue club, they send you a coupon on your birthday and anniversary for a free chocolate fondue for 2 (worth $16), which they will just deduct from the cost of a Big Night Out. They also occasionally run mid-week specials. We've tried the broth, where you boil your main course, once. I'm not a fan. Although somewhat scary (and you smell like fried grease), I think the hot oil is the way to go. Then they bring you batters, and you can make stuffed mushrooms and tempura vegetables. It's so yummy. And I just don't think you can go wrong with any of the cheeses (though I'm partial to the swiss) or any of the chocolates. For each course, they will happily bring you more dippers (not the main entree, but any veggies, bread, fruit, dessert). This is even true for the brownies, marshmellows, etc. for the dessert. Ask for more dippers -- they don't seem to mind. This is my go-to restaurant for special occasions. I know there is technically better food out there. But I just always feel like a visit to the MeltingPot is a real celebration, and at a pretty good price. (But if you're trying to save money, I'd get just the cheese course and chocolate course and skip the main course -- and ask for extra dippers!) Try it (and don't get the broth), and I think you'll be glad you did.

a little pricey but very yummy

I went with a large group of people (7 people). When we arrived for our 7:00 reservation, we were promptly seated by the welcoming hostess. Our waiter quickly came and took our drink orders. When he returned with our drinks, he spoke on and on about the seemingly endless menu. Finally, we decided on a Spinach Artichoke and Cheddar Cheese fondue with a main course of the oil and the Med. style main course. The waiter brought out TONS of tiny sauces and the two entrees after we quickly inhaled the cheese, bread, fruit, and chips. We enjoyed the Spinach Artichoke cheese fondue the most. The entree, however, was somewhat of a disappointment. Portions were tiny, and cooking time was hard to keep track of for each meat. The waiter showed us how to make fried stuffed mushrooms which everyone in our party enjoyed. Too bad there was only one per person! The Med. broth was quite tasty, albeit slower than the oil. Everyone in our group was so hungry, we fought over the two pans of oil and broth! The chocolate fondue was the highlight of the meal, as we gobbled it down before it even heated up. Overall, the experience was nice and fun, but pricey and and a one time thing to try. We might go back, but really, its not for large groups! The family begs to go back! (Total bill: $400 for 7 people)

What's the hype about?

Decided to go here to see what all the hype is about. We get there and we're seating in the corner booth. It's pretty cozy and romantic or whatever with the dim lighting.
So 3 courses:
1) Cheese fondue - it came with carrots, celery, cauliflower, apples, bread, and chips. Honestly, I only liked the bread and the tortilla chips. The apples were okay, but the rest taste like doodoo with cheese IMO.

2) Shrimp ceviche/house salad
Shrimp ceviche was pretty good, but dang that thing was tiny. 3 little tortilla chips and 4 little shrimps. House salad was a normal salad, nothing to write home about.

3) So we ended up getting the Mojo broth which is supposed to be one of the better ones. I thought the broth was okay...but I was expecting more since it was $7 extra. You cook the food and you dip them in the sauces. The sauces really didn't do much for me and the food was, again, okay...

Total was a 100 bucks for the cheese fondue, two salads, and premium broth for main course, 2 margaritas ($5 ea.) and 2 Coronas ($2 ea.) after tax and mandatory 20%. There was a special on alcohol that day, so the damage could have been a lot worse!

Definitely not worth it, but I'm glad I got the experience ""out of the way"". If you enjoy cooking at the table, I would suggest Korean BBQ or Vietnamese ""Lau"". Of course you won't get the intimate setting, but I think they taste much better and is a lot cheaper.

The apples were good

We went there for my fiancee's birthday and his cousins birthday. They stuck all four of us in a small booth with a steaming bowl that was shooting steam directly at me. The table was too small and could barely fit all of the little dishes they give you for the different courses. While it was intimate, it was a little too intimate with the size of our hotbox booth. Another concern of mine is that they have let dress codes slide there. A few years ago you couldn't get a way with wearing jeans and flip flops... now it seems like you can come in from the gym.
Our waitress was ok, but I don't think she was due the 20% tip they automatically put on your bill.

My suggestion? It's cheaper and easier to do it at home.

Average food for an above average price

The location is easy to find, parking is simple, but don't let that fool you. Inside it is very nicely lit and has very comfortable seating. This is all well and good, except that you don't want to really be there 3 hours, do you?

It takes about that long to eat an average meal there and i've never really been impressed. The sauces in the main course are the highlight for me, but the cuts of meat and the seasoning has never really made me feel like paying $120+ for two people. It is a fun experience and worth going once, just don't expect to be excited about all the food items you get.

Oh and also the bar and wine selection is decent. And not overpriced in comparison to some restaurants in the area.
