The Texas Youth Commission, also known as TYC, is a juvenile correction agency that has been serving customers since 1949. It provides individualized education, treatment, skill development and employment training services for juvenile offenders. The agency offers educational programs for incarcerated children between the ages of 10 and 19 in its institutional schools. The Texas Youth Commission offers chemical dependency treatment, workforce development, and career and technology education programs. It offers the Capital and Serious Violent Offender Treatment Program for children convicted for murder. The agency operates a system of more than 10 secure institutions and several residential halfway house programs. The Texas Youth Commission maintains a location in Houston.
