Right in front of City Hall, you can stroll along the City Hall Farmers Market, the newest in Urban Harvest's family of farmers market. It is held every Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
I saw Tafia, Saint Arnold, Nisha Indian Foods, and my very favorite Words and Food, LLC. Words and Food makes the best pimento cheese ever and has been given an award by Houston Press.
The City Hall Farmers Market has about 25 vendors and is located along both sides of City Hall's lovely reflection pool. I found local produce, organic juices, cheeses, olive oils, salad mixes, fresh fruits, yogurt, locally roasted coffee, artisan breads, and a variety of prepared and hot dishes. Downtown office workers and residents can enjoy lunch at City Hall around the Reflection Pool, at the adjacent Tranquility Park, or at their desk.
I saw a bunch of cops eating there and social media peeps. It is definitely the trendy place to be on Wednesday for lunch. Oh, they also have live music.
""The City Hall Farmers Market is another important piece of the City's sustainable food initiative,"" says Laura Spanjian, the Mayor's Sustainability Director. ""We want to demonstrate to Houstonians how easy and affordable it is to not only grow local fruits and vegetables, but to buy local as well.""
