Amazing experience! My friend recommended this salon before the holidays. I finally made some time to stop in for a salon experience. I enjoyed some delicious tea while I waited and just loved being there! I'm booking every 6 weeks, very happy with expertise and overall experience!

I have going to the Hair Cult for over 20 years. I have had numerous stylists and have never been dissatisfied with my hair. I like my hair very different. My hair was long mostly. They cut the hair great and colored it great. Coloring (my hair is naturally very dark brown) I had it dyed natural, red, blonde, light brown, and multi colored. I also over the course of time had my hair dread locked with hair extensions 4 times. My hair is normally full both very fine. Laurie the owner has always done a great job doing it. If later, I saw something that had to be fixed (it was only a minor fix) she had me come in and fixed at no charge. She is magical doing extensions and dreadlocks. I have recommend her to every one. It is truly hard to find a salon that does a person with straight fine hair to do this. You may say dread locks & hair extensions is a little pricey. (It does take apx 6 hours). It isnt pricey, if your hair is done right. I dont know anyone NYC area who can do this. Go ahead be cheap, you will pay less and be very unhappy. You pay for what you get. Laurie and her staff are first class and treat you like family. Love you Laurie thank you again for a great job.

I recently went to Hair Cult for the very first time. Just moved to Hoboken from Miami and I love Aveda and it was highly recommended by a coworker. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by what I can assume was the manager Ricardo. He offered my tea, held a conversation with me even though he seemed to be so busy he made me feel so comfortable and got rid of my nerves. Laurie was my stylist. She listened to what I was looking for and gave me exactly what I wanted and NEEDED! I left there feeling absolutely fabulous. My hair looked natural and flawless. Couldnt ask for more. Great customer service, great hair, just great overall. When i went to check out I made my next THREE appointments and left with a smile from ear to ear. I RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO EVERYONE!!!

I have, sorry, HAD shoulder length straight hair. I went to Hair Cult and saw Mariella because my previous stylist at a different salon moved overseas. I asked for ""up to 2 inches off the back and just a trim at the front, because I want to keep the length"". We discussed how this would make my hair quite angled towards the front, which I said I liked. I was surprised (and worried) by how quickly Mariella cut my hair, and then annoyed when she took about 3 times longer blow drying it. My hair is already straight and doesn't need to be tortured for 30 minutes to sit properly. When she was finished, I was shocked by how short it looked. I had gone from hair that touches my collar bone (I even checked a 2 week old photo to be sure I wasn't imagining things) to a long-ish bob. I've had lots of bob haircuts - it used to be my staple - and its an ok cut (not spectacular). The point however, is that its not what I asked for. Comparing my new cut to the photo, I reckon she took 2 inches off the front and 3 off the back. That may not sound huge, but for straight hair at this length, the difference is huge. So, I gave myself 24 hour hours to calm down before writing this review, but the fact is, I'm still hugely disappointed and annoyed that it will take 2 months to grow my hair back to where I wanted it. Although my issue was with the cut, and I can't comment on the other stylists, I wont be returning to this salon.

After a couple of times walking by Hair cult salon, I needed a change and decided to walk in, and give it a shot. I had the Best experience ever, starting with the front desk person, followed by the hairstylist that he recommended, very professional not only did my hair come out Amazing but I felt so relax with the great complementary scalp massage and a very friendly staff all around. All my friends already know about my great experience and Can't wait to go back.

Bill gave me the worst hair cut I can remember. This was my 3rd haircut with Bill, and he was familiar with my hair type (thick wavy/frizzy), and my style (I like long layers), However, this time, he clearly wasn't paying attention, and I ended up with a top layer of VERY SHORT hair, which did not blend at ALL with the rest of my hair which had no layers at ALL The end result was an extremely bulky looking, completely unstylable mess. I've had to resort to pulling it back in a ponytail, and using bobbypins to keep the short pieces from hanging in my face while it grows out.

I've been going to Hair Cult for about 14 years (I can remember when I started, it was soon after I got married). For the last 7 years, I've been ""commuting"" from the suburbs for my cuts; even worth the parking nightmares. It's a great atmosphere, everyone there always treats me like family (the family you like) and Laurie consistently gives me a better cut than anyone else has. The massage to start is cool, too, I just wish I didn't have to go next door to Marma to make it last an hour. I've always found people have a tough time with my hair, so I've had problems finding a person I like to cut it on a regular basis. My only worry now is if I get a new job out of the metro area - I'll have to hope Laurie's ready to open a second shop elsewhere.

I hadn't had my hair done since last November because I lost my job. Coincidentally the receptionist just cold called me to say they hadnt seen me in awhile, after explaining why i hadn't he mentioned about the Recessionista Thursday deal they had going on. Every thursday 12 - 4pm you can get any service for 30% off. I ran!!! I am so loving my hair today! I went from 9 months grownout highlights to a more natural color brown with some highlights, and an amazing cut! It had only been my second time to the salon, and it was as awesome an experience as the first time. Thanks Laurie!!!

I started going to Hair Cult when I moved to Hoboken and now I won't go anywhere else for cuts and foils. Jenny's really sweet and always goes beyond my expectations (in a good way!) My cut and color always grow out well. I have curly hair- and the layers always look good! Hard to find a good stylist for curly hair- Jenny's awesome and consistent!!! I've been happy after every appt!

I have been living in Hoboken for three years have tried many salons in town. My previous stylists have all left all of the other salons I have gone to regularly, so on a friend's recommendation I decided to try this place and I was disappointed. \r \r I was on time for my appointment (and had another appointment booked elsewhere after so I was kind of in a rush), but when I got there, my stylist just started on someone who had already been waiting. So I waited 45 minutes before they even washed my hair. I told him what I wanted, which I thought was simple: a trim, shape up, and long whispy bangs (long enough to pin back or tuck behind my ear). Somehow I got layers, barely any hair was actually cut, and short whispy bangs that I cannot pin up of tuck behind my ear (which isn't even and doesn't look cute). Plus, while he was cutting my hair, he stopped numerous times to check on another client and make several other appointments. He blew-out my hair out for a few minutes (I have a lot of wavy hair that takes time to blow-out straight), and told me I was done. My hair was still damp and frizzy cause the blowout and style I paid $60 for wasn't complete. I had to go home and blow-out my own hair and honestly, besides my weird bangs, couldn't tell I had gotten a haircut. \r \r He was in such a rush, in fact, that he had to ask me twice if he had already put product in my hair because he forgot. And when I told him I preferred no product besides an anti-frizz/shine before a blow-out because my hair gets really oily with excess product, he still put extra pomade in after my hair was ""dry"" which, of course, made my hair super greasy. And I felt as though I was being rushed out of there so he could get to his next appointment. I understand if you are running behind schedule, but I paid for my haircut too and expect to get what I pay for. \r \r He was, however, really nice and the salon is priced the same as most salons in town, but I didn't get the attention I should have and was pretty much like ""that's it?"" when he told me I was done. When you pay that much for a haircut and style, you shouldn't have to go home to style your hair yourself. I will be trying another salon in Hoboken and I recommend that you do the same.

Stylist showed up almost an hour late for my updo appointment on my wedding day. Owner was in the shop and never once came over and offered to replace the very late stylist. In fact, she never, ever acknowledged me even at the end when I complained. Turns out the stylist was so rushed to get my hair done that they actually had the makeup artist doing my make-up at the same time!! Then when I got back my wedding pictures, I noticed there was a curl sticking up out of my updo. Crappy job and worse customer service if that's even possible.

If you are looking for natural style highlights DO NOT go to BIll. I even brought in pictures and had been going to another stylist there whom had given me natural looking highlights. They have of your process on record so I thought anyone could do what she did, but no he took it a shade lighter and now i am stuck with hair with major blonde streaks in it-- it looks horrible!

So, here?s a Hair Cult review in the form of a cautionary tale. You might choose Hair Cult because it?s conveniently located in your neighborhood and you like the bohemian style of the decor. Initially, it seems like a good choice: your first visit to the salon is a very positive experience. You enjoy the complimentary cup of Aveda herbal tea and the relaxing head massage, and your haircut is great. As time passes and you become a regular client, however, you realize that the tea is not always offered, the massages have become briefer and more perfunctory, and the quality of your haircut varies. Furthermore, you?ve noticed that the staff seem prone to mood swings, and they often pay more attention to each other than to their own clients. After one particularly aggravating appointment, which leaves you with a badly layered cut and the feeling that you were being talked about behind your back, you start wondering whether you should look for another salon. In the end, the decision is made for you. You learn that your stylist has left and moved across the country without giving you any warning. Not to mention that you?re going to be married in a few months, so now you really *do* need to find a new stylist for your all-important wedding-day hair. Fortunately, there are plenty of other salons in Hoboken and in NYC. Maybe you should have looked elsewhere first.

I read about this salon on the web site naturalycurly and it was everything I expected. Alot of the stylist have curls so that is always a good sighn. It was one of the best cuts I ever had and the price was good. Very happy.

I used to get my hair done here...Last year I went to Abby for highlights, with pictures of what I wanted in hand. I even specified what I DIDN'T want - and what did I get? Exactly what I told her I didn't want. Because of the terrible lighting in the shop, you couldn't tell the difference. But once I got home, I realized how awful my hair looked and went back to get it redone. Whatever....a few months later, had a haircut with Jackie. That was really good. But when I went back I was given some guy with scraggly hair and he was beyond bad. Was more interested in the conversation going on at another chair than what he was doing and after he 'blew out' my hair I looked like the girl from Princess Diaries before her makeover. I will never go back again, and would never recommend this place to anybody.

Abby's a genius with my highlights and I am not easy to please. It took me years to find her!
