Oddly, the best American burgers is served up by a local Korean couple. This restaurant is owned and operated by two very family-friendly Koreans. My family and I have been visiting them several times a week for the last 10 years (roughly). I've been to a lot of greasy spoons around town and by far this is one of the best. First and foremost, it's seldom crowded ... great for local High Point University students looking to study. You can always get a seat. Secondly, it's a great location. It's surrounded by windows (though it's in a shopping center); so, you get a great view, lots of light, very airy, well decorated (nothing too flashy). Next door, there's a breezeway that connects to Gerry's, a local underground music/book store. The diner is a gem for those in the industrial/construction field; there's almost always a lot of them sitting at the ""lunch counter"" with a juicy burger and fries. Lastly, the staff is so friendly. Mind you, there's only two of them. There are no formal waiters; it's a casual joint. The cook often takes orders. (Again, it's a family-run restaurant that's very informal and laid-back.) They'll want to talk to you, get to know their customers. It's one of the reasons I think we've continued to support them.
As for the food, it's top notch. Prices are low/fair. It's basically burgers, hot dogs, grilled cheese, chef salad, etc. For what it is, this is a great little diner for just about anyone. If you're trying to stay away or need a break from chain restaurants, try Kim's Diner.
Highly recommended for families and local students.
