General Info:
Hendersonville Veterinary Hospital is a full-service, small animal hospital located in Hendersonville, NC. Our professional and courteous staff provides the best possible medical, surgical and dental care for our patients. We are committed to promoting responsible pet ownership, preventative health care and health-related educational opportunities for our clients. Last September our hospital celebrated its 50th anniversary with a drop-in reception. It was our way of saying thank you to our friends and clients. Our hospital was established by Dr. H. A. Justus and was originally located on Spartanburg Highway when it was still a gravel road. It moved to its current location in the 1960's. In 1990, Dr. Zehr moved to Hendersonville and became an Associate with Dr. Justus. In 1994, Dr. Zehr purchased the hospital and began systematically upgrading and expanding our medical capabilities. In the late 1990's we enlarged the reception area and added additional exam rooms, initiated a program of staff expansion and training, and added video endoscopy. Over the last 10 years we have upgraded our x-ray equipment, added a laser surgicial unit, received American Hospital Association accreditation, added state of the art dental equipment and a digital dental x-ray unit. Our in-house laboratory now includes Heska handheld and bench top serum chemical analyzers, a fecal centrifuge, EKG and blood pressure machines. In 2007, Dr. Zehr completed additional training in endodontics and now performs root canals and other tooth saving procedures. Our future plans are to add inroom "virtual pet" display software to help explain complicated health conditions and procedures. We understand how important your pets are to your family and we appreciate the trust you place on us. Our hospital has developed a Code of Professional Conduct based on honesty, integrity and compassion. All our staff commits to this code. We know this, and our commitment our clients and patients, will carry HVH into the future.

i have not personally used this clinic, but my sisters have, and they have been impressed by the knowledge, caring, and conduct of both Dr. Zehr & Dr. Blair. As a Licensed Veterinary Technician, i know that the fact that they are AAHA approved says a tremendous amount of good about the clinic. AAHA standards are so high that many veterinary clinics do not even attempt to get approval. To get AAHA accreditation , a clinic must be top notch in every way... professional knowledge, quality & maintenance of equipment, cleanliness (even a (specified method of construction in kennel space to avoid waste from one run from entering another), veterinary technicians as well as veterinarians must display their licenses to practice (thus preventing untrained personnel from acting as vet techs and performing advanced procedures they are legally prohibited from). AAHA approval is the gold standard for veterinary clinics, and not easily attained. In response to Upset66, i would want to hear more details of the incident referred to before judging the practice. Owners with dead or dying pets, or pets brought in for euthanasia are typically (& understandably) distraught. they often do not hear, and/or misinterpret, what is said to them. I have never, in working at about a dozen different practices, heard a vet be less than compassionate when dealing with bereaved owners. (even those who may have been less than compassionate elsewhere) Most will always inform the owner personally if an animal dies while in the clinic, not delegating this awful job to a technician or office manager. While i do not want to give the appearance of accusing Upset66 of any wrongdoing whatsoever, i would add that in some cases, such as neglect, abuse, not seeking emergency care, or waiting until an animal has been suffering for months, even years before finally deciding to euthanize, or wanting euthanasia for frivolous reasons or for reasons that are easily correctable, it is an effort, sometimes an extreme effort to sympathize with a client. I would like to ask people to not discount this practice based on one review - it appears to be an excellent facility, and i have heard many good reports about each vet.

I lost our longtime friend and pet, Rockford, this past Saturday.

While the loss is a shock to my senses, that loss is overshadowed by the crassness, lack of empathy, and lack of compassion shown by Dr. Blair. His conduct was very unprofessional.
