We just stayed at this motel this past weekend and were very pleasantly surprised. After reading several reviews, we were hesitant, however, this was the only motel in Hawley that had a vacancy that would allow us to book only one night on a weekend at this time of year. We were visiting the area for a fishing tournament and couldn't stay for more than one night, so we were kind of "stuck" with this place. Like I said, I was wary after reading some of the reviews on the internet, but our choices were limited at the time. But, from the time we checked in until the time we left, we had a very enjoyable experience. The owners were very nice and personable. The wife was so pleasant as she checked me in and while she was doing that, her husband walked all the way down to the back of the building to help my husband back up the boat and get it all plugged in to charge the battery. They couldn't have been nicer. We then went in to check out the room. I'm quite picky, and if the room wasn't clean, I would have had no problem turning around and leaving. I will tell you, the room was absolutely up to my standards - very clean and the grounds around this motel are kept impeccable. We didn't have a chance to check out the indoor pool, but I hear that it's awesome. Some of the reviews are correct in that they are missing some ammenities such as a coffee pot and the bathtub drain and the carpet in the room could use replacing, etc. But the room was clean and the people were very pleasant and nice. I think what people need to keep in mind is that these places in small towns such as these are mom & pop operations; they are not chain hotels. These folks are hard-working people with families and they need to close up the office at 9:00 pm to go home to sleep. This is not exclusive to this motel, others in the area do the same thing. As for not serving coffee or having a coffee pot in the room - they do not advertise anywhere that they do offer a continental breakfast or have a coffee pot in the rooms, so I don't think it should be expected. No drain in the bathtub? Yes, at first this seems odd, but if you have a guest or two who make a mess and cost you a lot of money in repairs......well, a few bad apples can spoil things for the whole bunch. Maybe these folks have been burned one too many times. Signing a smoking waiver? That waiver was right on the same rental agreement I signed when I checked in - it wasn't a separate sheet of paper - and I've seen this at every other non-smoking hotel and motel I've ever stayed at, too - they'll all charge you extra if you smoke in a non-smoking room - I'm a smoker, but even I understand & get that! To sum up, It would have been a shame if we had passed this place up because of some of the negative reviews - I think these folks have gotten a bad rap from a few disgruntled guests. I'm hoping that I can make sure others in similar situations will give them a try and put their mind at ease because it really was a nice little place. Fancy? No. A friendly and clean place? Absolutely. All in all, I would be very happy to stay there again the next time I'm in Hawley, Pa!
My family and I stayed at the inn for a week this past month. We really loved our room and the Hawley area. We took the kids horseback riding for the first time. We all really liked ending our day in the pool. I would like to go back in the winter when we could ski then use the pool at the end or the day.
