Colonoscopy
The colonoscopy is a visual inspection of the colon with a lighted, flexible scope. EGD involves examining the esophagus, stomach, and first portion of the upper gastro-intestinal (GI)tract (the duodenum).
Constipation

Colon Cancer
Both procedures are well tolerated and in most cases you can expect to be back to work or normal activities by the next day. In most cases, a regular schedule of a preventative screening colonoscopy every ten years will greatly reduce the possibility of developing colon cancer.
Endoscopy
As a board certified and fellowship-trained general surgeon, Dr. Jason Dameron specializes in minimally invasive and advanced laparoscopic techniques to provide his patients with the best possible results. He has more than 10 years’ experience in all aspects of general surgery including breast, endocrine, skin/soft tissue and gastrointestinal disease as well as hernias and surgical endoscopy.

General Surgery
General surgery physicians are specially trained in the diagnosis and operative and management of a wide range of surgical services and procedures. General surgeons must successfully graduate from medical school, then complete five to seven years of intensive instruction in a residency program, prior to being able to operate.
Wound Care
You should expect to receive instructions on how to care for your wound. These will be given to you directly by the Hospital Nurse prior to your release. Generally we want to leave the original dressing on for at least 24-48 hours, but again this should be explained to you prior to your leaving the hospital. If there is any doubt, keep a dry dressing over the wound and contact us at our office during regular business hours. If there are special wound care issues or drains involved, you will receive specific instructions on how to care for these, and sometimes a Home Health Nurse may be assigned to help you at home as well.
Minimally Invasive Surgery
Dr. Dameron earned his Doctorate of Medicine from East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine. He completed his general surgery residency at Greenville Hospital University Medical Center in Greenville, South Carolina. He also competed a year of specialized fellowship training in advanced laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
