Behavioral Counseling
A MUST for every good family dog, regardless of size or breed! Puppies may start classes when they are as young as 8 weeks old. Obedience training is fun. It helps prevent negative encounters between family members and the dog. It reinforces the bond between the handler(s) and Pet. Consult veterinarians, breeders, local training clubs, YMCAs, recreation centers, and newspaper columns on dogs or Pets for details about classes, costs, and requirements.
Nutritional Counseling
Loss of Appetite. Just like people, cats may lose interest in food when they're sick. In some cases, cats may feel fine, but may avoid eating due to tooth pain.
Comprehensive Examination
Your Pet's annual vet check-up will include a total Physical Examination and consultation, with a thorough investigation of your Pet's head, body and tail, and all his/her assorted cavities. Because even the most cooperative Pet may not readily go-along with a tooth and gum brushing, an annual cleaning by your veterinarian may be in order. Like you, your Pet can lose his teeth due to decay and neglect. It's a good idea to keep an accurate medical diary not only of the procedures and vaccinations your Pet receives at the vet, but also of notes on things like your Pet's elimination habits and any physical changes or unusual occurrences. Keep track of small shifts in your Pet's behavior, including urinary marking habits and mood swings, along with diet and routine modifications. Take this notebook when you visit the vet. These seemingly unrelated occurrences may help explain results of your pet's medical tests. Also, if you need to change vets, it's good to have this journal to provide a complete medical history.

Illness Treatment

Parasites Treatment and Control
Vomiting or Diarrhea. Frequent vomiting or diarrhea warrants a trip to the veterinarian's office. Both can be caused by eating a toxic substance, a viral or bacterial infection, intestinal parasites, inflammatory bowel disease, a cancerous or non-cancerous growth, kidney disease, diabetes, thyroid disease, or many other diseases or conditions. If your cat doesn't receive prompt treatment, it could become dangerously dehydrated.
Vomiting Treatment
Rarely, serious adverse responses occur. Contact your veterinarian immediately if your Pet has repeated vomiting or diarrhea, whole body itching, difficulty breathing, collapse, or swelling of the face or legs. These signs may indicate an allergic reaction. In very rare instances death can occur. Talk to your veterinarian about the latest information on vaccine safety, including rare adverse responses that may develop weeks or months after vaccination. Remember that while vaccination is not without risk, failure to vaccinate leaves your Pet vulnerable to fatal illnesses that are preventable.
Diarrhea Treatment
Skin Condition and Allergy Treatment
Cytauxzoonosis. This tick-borne disease spread by the American dog tick and lone star tick affects cats, many of whom die from the illness. Symptoms include high fever, weakness, fatigue, dehydration, vomiting, diarrhea, jaundice, enlarged lymph nodes, abdominal pain, seizures, and coma.

Infection Treatment

Bacterial and Viral Infection Treatment
Inability to Move Back Legs. Has your cat suddenly started dragging it's back legs? The most common cause of the problem is a type of blood clot called a saddle thrombus, according to Tufts University Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. A stroke, tumor, viral or fungal infection, tick bite, spinal inflammation, slipped disc, or a broken pelvis are among the other reasons for back leg paralysis or weakness.
Urinary Tract Infection Treatment
Change in Litter Box Habits. Your cat might avoid the litter box if it has kidney stones, a urinary tract infection, feline interstitial cystitis, kidney stones, or a life-threatening urinary tract blockage. Some urinary tract conditions could also make it difficult to reach the litter box in time. Older cats may find it difficult to use a litter box with a high rim due to joint pain or arthritis or might forget where the litter box is due to dementia.

Chronic Condition Treatment

Arthritis Treatment
Supplements. Glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate, the same supplements people use, to ease arthritis pain may also be helpful for pets. Be sure to ask your pet's veterinarian about the proper dosage of any supplements.
Hip Dysplasia Treatment
Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. Rocky Mountain spotted fever has been reported in nearly every state, although the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention note that the disease is most often found in Central, Eastern and Western states. If your pet has Rocky Mountain spotted fever, it may experience joint pain, fever, swollen lymph nodes, poor appetite, coughing, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, balance problems, and purple spots on the mouth or eyelids due to damaged blood vessels. In severe cases, organ failure can occur due to blood clots. The American Dog Tick, Brown Deer Tick and Rocky Mountain Wood Tick can transmit Rocky Mountain spotted fever.
Obesity Treatment
Do you throw handfuls of food in your pet's dish instead of following the feeding recommendations on the package? Your pet is more likely to develop a weight problem if too much food is available. As many as 56 million American cats are overweight or obese, according to estimates from the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention. Gaining too much weight increases your cat's risk of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, urinary tract disease, joint issues, high blood pressure and arthritis.

Thyroid Disease Treatment
Thirst. Have you been refilling your cat's water bowl more frequently lately? Several diseases and conditions, including diabetes and kidney or thyroid disease, increase your pet's thirst.
Heart Disease Treatment
We use the most modern inhalant anesthetics, to make anesthesia as safe as possible for your pet. We use the latest in monitoring technology including pulse oximeters, end tidal CO2 monitor, ECG, and Doppler blood pressure monitor to help ensure your Pets' safe anesthesia.
Kidney Disease Treatment
Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs). NSAIDs decrease inflammation and pain and are a good choice if you have a headache or joint or muscle pain. Some NSAIDs are safe for pets, but the NSAIDs you take aren't. If your pet takes ibuprofen, aspirin, naproxen sodium or other NSAIDs, it could experience vomiting, diarrhea, stomach ulcers, or liver and kidney damage.
Periodontal Disease Treatment
If your pet has periodontal disease, its gums may begin to pull away from the teeth, forming deep pockets around the teeth. Debris and bacteria collect in the pockets, which only worsens your pet's breath.
Cancer Treatment
Your pet may need surgery if a tumor is the reason for the bad breath. Tumors can benign (non-cancerous) or cancerous. If your pet has a cancerous tumor, radiation or chemotherapy may also be recommended, depending on the type and stage of the cancer.

Our surgical suite is prepared to help protect your pet during surgery and provides the proper environment for the specialized and highly technical surgeries performed by our veterinarians or our visiting specialized surgeon. The surgery room is equipped with the highest quality instruments, including monitors, LASER machine and suction, allowing us to perform many soft tissue surgeries such as ovariohysterectomies, neuters, tumor removals, cystotomies, abdominal exploratories, orthopedic surgery and much more.
Laser Surgery
Spaying and Neutering
Spaying (for females) and neutering (for males) prevent animals from having babies and offer a few health benefits. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, spaying provides protection against breast cancer and uterine infections, while neutering protects males from testicular cancer and enlarged prostate glands.

Laboratory Services
We have state-of-the-art machines that allow us to run complete blood counts, chemistries and many other tests at our hospital. We also partner with a veterinary specialty diagnostic laboratory in Miami where we send many of our blood and tissue samples for overnight results.
X-Ray
Choose a veterinarian who is calm, compassionate and willing to explain all the procedures your pet undergoes. Try to find a vet with whom both you and your pet feel comfortable. Try to have it convenient, choose a clinic with qualified staff and facilities to undertake surgery and perform procedures requiring anesthesia, such as teeth cleaning. Because of the general risks inherent to anesthesia, especially for very old, very young or very ill pets, your veterinarian will likely suggest a few exams, including a chest X-ray and lab blood work and urine, before your pet is anesthetized. During the procedure he might need an IV drip; antibiotics and pain medications may be necessary before and after.

Her work ethics and attitude to learn and strive impressed us at such a young age that she was hired to work while she was in high school in the veterinary program. She also is involved with a dog training company specializing in protection training with GSD and Belgian Malinois. In her spare time she enjoys her own couple of Belgian Malinois, turtle, fish and birds.
