Overall

We moved in here 3 years ago and the neighborhood has really gone downhill due to just one family next door to us that the HOA will do nothing about. They have trash piled up on their back porch, including mattresses and chairs. They have 10 different families living in their one townhome who park in all the visitor spot and bang their car doors into ours and have ruined our cars with kicking soccerballs into them. I just took a picture of a soccerball print on my back window yesterday. They are so loud and blow their car horns at midnight and have 20 kids running around screaming. Just now when I got home they were parked in one of our spots. We have to deal with all of this and have complained so many times that now the HOA won't respond to my e-mails EXCEPT to say that Lowes put the wrong toppers on our fence and we need to change them. I don't feel the need to change them and put more money into this place when we can't rent or sell with them next door. We had to move our bedroom to the basement just so we can sleep at night and not be woken up by them out front. They are renting and need to be kicked out. Right now it's hard to even concentrate writing this because they are being so loud outside. Help!! I wouldn't recommend moving here when the HOA goes nuts over tall grass and fence toppers, but won't do anything about real problems.

Overall
When I first moved to Beacon H...

When I first moved to Beacon Hill as a renter I loved the neighborhood. There were just enough rules and regulations to keep the neighborhood nice, but not an overbearing HOA. There was a mix of students in the development, but the majority of occupants were families and young professionals. Several years ago I decided that I wanted to purchase in the neighborhood and have been disappointed ever since. In addition to the more recent influx of college students and I feel as a homeowner I have been treated very poorly.

Changes made within the HOA have created a very overbearing authority. Rules are a positive aspect in most ways, but when you live somewhere that tags your door because your shrub is an inch and a half taller than is acceptable, or because your mulch is a little too dark to meet standards, or you left your holiday decorations up 8 days past the holiday when you're only allowed 7 days it gets to be overwhelming.

I have had instances where neighbors trash cans have been placed on my porch because they left them out too long. Recently, pizza boxes were placed in my flower bed because they somehow didn't get picked up by the trash men and were left by the street. They weren't mine and I'm not sure why the person who took it upon themselves to assume they were didn't just place them in the trash versus creating an eye sore in my very well maintained landscaping.

In addition we receive a weekly "Violation Report" via email that explains each neighbors short falls, including those who haven't paid dues. While I have never been on that list I feel it highly inappropriate. Some may find this type of governing a great asset, but I however do not, and I truly regret my choice to purchase in this particular neighborhood.

I encourage anyone considering moving to Beacon Hill to consider the HOA's power over how you choose to trim your shrubs or celebrate your holidays.
