Arthritis
Osteoporosis can affect anyone, but it most often occurs in postmenopausal women, especially thin, Caucasian females. Loss of bone mass is correlated with lower estrogen levels, so postmenopausal women have an increased risk of osteoporosis. Other risk factors include advanced age, long-term glucocorticoid therapy, low body weight, cigarette smoking, and excessive alcohol consumption. Certain medical conditions also increase the risk of osteoporosis, such as Rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, diabetes, celiac disease, vitamin D deficiency, history of breast cancer, and parental history of hip fractures.

Smoking Cessation
Education is crucial in the prevention of osteoporosis. Partaking in regular weight-bearing and muscle-strengthening exercises can help reduce the chances of getting osteoporosis, along with smoking cessation and limiting alcohol intake. Taking calcium and vitamin D supplements and eating leafy green vegetables can also help decrease the chances of getting osteoporosis, especially in patients with known risk factors. These are all great preventive measures, and the earlier you can start them, the more effective they will be.

While running his practice, he served as a professor for the Sports, Orthopaedics and Spine Sports Medicine fellowship program as well a clinical instructor for the Bethel University Physician Assistant program. Ultrasound
In a platelet rich plasma (PRP) injection, the patientâ€™s own blood is processed at high speeds, resulting in higher concentrations of the patientâ€™s own growth and healing factors, which are then injected into the injured area, guided by ultrasound. PRP promotes a more potent healing response and works very well for soft tissue injuries, such as tendonitis and muscle strains. It may also be effective for arthritis or cartilage injuries.
MRI
A concussion, or mild traumatic brain injury, is a functional injury that causes changes in the thinking, emotional, and physical aspects of an individual that can occur with OR without loss of consciousness. Since it is a functional disturbance, a concussion cannot be diagnosed by X-rays, CT or MRI.

Cara Shelby attended the University of Central Arkansas and graduated summa cum laude with her bachelorâ€™s degree in Radiography. She later attended Southern Illinois University to complete her masterâ€™s degree in Physician Assistant Studies. After graduation, she decided to return to her home state to provide care to the Arkansas community. Because of her radiology background, she has always been interested in orthopedics and is very excited to be a part of the AOS team.

Dr. Yakin is double board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons in orthopaedic surgery and orthopaedic sports medicine. He is originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and obtained his undergraduate degree from Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania and is a graduate of Hahnemann University Medical School in Philadelphia. He completed his internship in general surgery at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh and his orthopaedic surgery residency at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Taylor is a NCCPA Certified Physician Assistant. Taylor grew up in Northwest Arkansas attending the University of Arkansas where he received a Bachelorâ€™s Degree in Biology. His interest in orthopedics started at an early age watching his dad take care of the athletes and people in our community. Taylor received his Masterâ€™s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Roc, graduating with high honors.
