General Info

KTI first opened in October 1980 and was granted institutional accreditation by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools and the National Association of Trade and Technical Schools in 1983. Renewal of accreditation was granted by the Accrediting Commission for Trade and Technical Schools of the Career College of Health Education Schools and Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (formerly the Accrediting Commission for Trade and Technical Schools of the Career College Association) was granted to 2001. Evening classes were added in 1986 and the medical curriculum was expanded. In October 1989, there was a change of ownership, and KTI began to offer business, computer and legal programs. In January 1995, KTI added three new programs to its curriculum: Medical Assistant Specialist, Paralegal Specialist and Data Processing Technology Specialist. Each of these programs expands the previous courses of study and includes general education subjects. In August 1995, KTI was granted approval to offer the Associate in Specialized Business Degree for Paralegal Specialist and Data Processing Technology Specialist, and the Associate Specialized Technology degree for Medical Assistant Specialist. In May of 1996, because of the growing awareness of wellness and concern for health maintenance, KTI added a Professional Massage Therapist program. In February, 1997, KTI was granted approval to offer the Associate in Specialized Technology Degree for Dental Assistant Specialist and the Associate in Specialized Business Degree for Medical Office Management. In August, 1997, in keeping with its commitment toward growth and building a bridge to the 21st Century, KTI moved to a new eight-acre campus. In May, 1998, KTI was granted approval to offer the Associate in Specialized Business Degree for Child Care Specialist to help fill the demand for child care workers. In December of 2000, KTI expanded its wellness program with the Professional Massage Therapy Specialist, Associates in Specialized Business Degree Program, which was granted approval on June 20, 2001. In November of 2001, the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology granted renewal of accreditation through November 2006, without stipulation and presented KTI with a School of Distinction Award. In 2003, the Culinary Arts and Digital Arts Programs were added to meet the growing need in the region. In June, 2006, KIS Career Schools, Inc. purchased all the assets of the Academy from Academy of Medical Arts and Business, Inc. and continued to do business as Academy of Medical Arts and Business until changing the institution’s name to Keystone Technical Institute on January 15, 2007. In August, 2007, three new programs were added to KTI offerings. They included Drafting Technology, Computer/ Network Technician, and Computer, Network and Internet Technologies. In 2008, KTI added five new programs, two in medical office, two in business and one in fitness health. In August, 2012, KTI added a program focus on electrical—the start of the construction trade division. Also the culinary department was expanded to include a diploma program in baking and pastry. In March, 2013, KTI added a diploma program to train for positions in Central Services (Sterile Processing Department) of a hospital, Sterile Processing Technician. In July, 2013 our Medical Assistant and Medical Assistant Specialist programs were programmatically accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP) and in June, 2012 both our Culinary Arts Specialist and Baking & Pastry program received their programmatic accreditation by the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation (ACFEF). Main campus is located at 2301 Academy Drive Harrisburg, PA which is in Lower Paxton Township.KTI has a construction trade facility located 1.5 miles east of our main campus on Linglestown Road.

Amenities

KTI provides career training in areas that are in high demand for employment. KTI students also are eligible to apply for State federal and other financial assistance. Financial Assistance is available to those who qualify.KTI graduates are also provided career placement assistance including resume writing, cover letters, thank you letters, interview skills and employment leads.

Associations

*Culinary Arts and Baking and Pastry programs are programmatically accredited by the ACFEF (ACF). Our graduates are eligible for certification by the ACF. * Medical Assistant Specialist and Medical Assistant programs are programmatically accredited by the MAREB which provided eligibility to our graduates take the certified medical assistant (CMA) offered by the AAMA. *both of our Electrical programs are endorsed by the PA Builder Association.
