She maintains active membership in the: American Academy of Dermatology, American Osteopathic College of Dermatology, American Osteopathic Association, American Society for MOHS Surgery, the Long Island Dermatology Society and the Suffolk County Dermatologic Society. A native of Long Island, Dr. Serure was born and raised in Stony Brook, New York and now lives with her husband and two children in Dix Hills, New York.

Skin Cancer
Such a lesion is typically a result of chronic exposure to sunlight, particularly ultraviolet light and is therefore mainly found on areas of the body most frequently exposed to the sun. While not a skin cancer, an untreated actinic keratosis may develop into a squamous cell carcinoma, a form of skin cancer capable of metastasizing and even resulting in death. Treatment for eczema can involve many factors depending on the severity of the condition. Many over-the-counter creams and lotions that keep the skin moisturized are effective. Otherwise, a prescription for medicines containing antihistamines or corticosteroids may soothe the skin. Lifestyle changes are also important such as bathing regimens and laundry habits.

Psoriasis
Psoriasis is an auto-immune disease that causes skin cells to build on top of one another and create patches of red, bumpy and scaly skin. The build-up of skin cells occurs as a result of being attacked by the T cells in the body, causing the healthy cells to replicate more frequently than normal. The condition comes in many different forms, including plaque, guttate, inverse, pustular and erythrodermic psoriasis, and each type can create significant discomfort, both physically and emotionally, for those who have it. There is no cure for psoriasis, but treatments are available that target its symptoms. Topical retinoids, corticosteroids or vitamin D creams can limit inflammation and skin cell growth. Other methods include oral medications, laser therapy and avoiding substances that catalyze the condition.

In this method of allergy testing, several patches are taped to the skin, usually the skin of the upper back. Unlike the two previous methods of allergy skin testing, patch tests necessitate that the patches be left in place for 48 hours during which the area must be kept dry. As with the other forms of allergy skin testing, patients must be alerted to the possibility of a severe reaction so they can remove any patch that is causing serious problems, such as wheezing, and notify their physician immediately.
