Seriously, this place is almost invisible behind a Starbucks and Gentle Dental, but the Chicken Three Styles makes it worth the drive in this city of fairly poor Chinese food. \r \r The lemon chicken is a whole breast in a fantastic cripsy coating in an acutally lemony sauce. The General Tso's is nice tender bites with just a hint of heat (unless you eat one of those pepper! Wow!) There is also a nice chicken with snow peas, red bell peppers, and water chesnuts in an opaque sauce that has a little garlic to it. (Maybe it has a name, I don't know it...) This is served artfully, the plate is beautiful when brought to the table. I have this EVERY TIME I GO THERE.\r \r Orange Beef is an amazing texture, almost crispy, paper thin slices of beef with orange zest in a zippy sauce.\r The rest of it is probably great too, but I've not yet gone with enough people to order more than these couple of dishes... One three styles serves two easily, and we usually get two orders when the group has been four or five.

I've been eating at Szechuan for many years and have always had excellent service and food. Many of my friends from out of state always want to go have lunch at the Open Kitchen when they come to visit. Definitely the best Chinese food in town. Try the Hot and Sour soup when you have a head cold. :0)

I had a group of friends who came in from Atlanta one weekend and I took them to Szechuan Open Kitchen and had such a great time! It was my first time there ? recommended by some friends who live in Portland. The staff was so helpful and friendly. I was expecting the food to be average but was so surprised to find that it was absolutely delicious. All in all, everyone had a GREAT time and I definitely recommend this place!

We went here first a few years ago. At that time I remember being about 50/50 on the dishes we got. Compared to the very poor quality of Chinese food in the Portland area, though, that was pretty good.\r \r Then we tried it again tonight for takeout. The crab puffs had a very strange, strong taste, as if the frying oil hadn't been changed in ages. The General's Chicken probably started OK, but was soggy after the 1 mile trip home--the texture wasn't good, but it tasted OK. The Mongolian Beef was gross, sweet and gloppy. The beef fried rice, though... it had an overwhelming eggy flavor, a raw eggy flavor. I went back in the kitchen and scooped out some more to look at it more closely. And almost threw up. Yes, it was overwhelmingly eggy, but that was the least of the problems. The meat was RAW! The edges were grayed, but the bulk of it was RED and RAW! Now I'm just sitting here waiting to get sick from uncooked, poorly handled food. Oh, so gross...\r \r Two things I won't do again: order from Szechuan Open Kitchen, and eat in a poorly lit living room where I can't see the food.

Great food. Lots of variety. Fast service. Appetizer sampler is perfect. It comes to the table flaming.

I have been a regular at Szechuan Open Kitchen for over 5 years now, and they have never disappointed. The House Special soup is excellent, kung pao is really good, and the General Tso's is superb. This restaurant constantly has the best Chinese food in Gresham, perhaps on the entire East side of the Portland Metro area.

My husband and I have eaten here DOZENS of times over the years and always have a great experience and delicious food. We drive all the way in from Rhododendron for a night out occasionally. The sesame chicken is great - crispy but not highly breaded and definitely NOT that deep-fried cliche with whatever sauce matches the description! Ask what vegetable is fresh and they can fix a special dish. The house special lo mein is great too.

Szechuan is currently my favorite Chinese restaurant, especially after they opened their new location in Lake Grove. The food tastes great and is prepared promptly. I recommend the sesame chicken or the special egg foo young, which is prepared from scratch! Service is also friendly. Lunch is also served every day of the week currently, so come at that time for the best prices.
