Shocked!

I boarded my two-year-old multi-Pooh with this place and I boarded my two-year-old funny. This place I boarded my two-year-old malti-Poo with this place and I boarded my two-year-old bunny. When I came back to pick up my animals they told me that a German Shepherd like dog had opened the door of his own cage,to the room of the lounge, the door to the grooming place, and the door to the lobby, and it had opened my bunnys cage, and knocked it over. My bunny had died. I was shocked. I will never board here again I hope you wont either. They wouldnt even give me my pet back! I was appalled!

Nothing Short of Wonderful

We are extremely with the love and care given to our Gabby at Camp Chinquapin for Critters! Gabby attends Camp there and has also been boarded there. All our experiences with the staff have been Nothing Short of Wonderful! Gabby is a very social, and happy puppy. I have high standards for anyone who care for someone/something that I love and Camp Chinquapin goes above and beyond my expectations. When I see how excited my baby is when we turn onto Old Abbeville Hwy, and then how she loves all over the staff-I have no doubts that she is in good hands. My calls while out of town to check on her have always been warmly accepted, and usually followed by a pic sent to me of her playing in her play yard. Thank you, Owner and Staff for Gabby's home away from home!!!

I am nothing short of extremely pleased with the care and service provided at Camp Chinquapin for Critters. My Gabby LOVES going to camp and greets the Camp Workers like part of her extended family. Not only does our "baby girl" go to camp there on a weekly basis, I have experienced boarding her when I had to leave town. I called every day and was given a detailed report of how my dog was doing, and even daily pics of her playing as usual in the play yard. I would HIGHLY recommend Camp Chinquapin to anyone who loves their furry babies as much as I love ours. Thank you, Camp Chinquapin Staff! We love you!

Great Staff, Affordable, and my shoes have never looked better

We have been taking our dog to Camp Chinquapin for 2 years. The staff are ALWAYS caring and compassionate toward my dog. My boxer has a lot of energy and the days that I do not take him to camp, I regret it. After a day at camp he is the ideal dog. He is relaxed, exhausted, and I no longer have to worry about my shoes being chewed. They really treat him so well that I know he prefers to be at camp than be at home. I believe that they are very affordable. Where we used to live it cost twice as much. I have read the other reviews below and I just don't agree. They are terrific. Of course, they need to be cautious with dogs who are aggressive, especially because there are dogs, cats, and even a goat once coming through the doors all day. When dogs play with each other and socialize all day, they will have some scratches, they are dogs and they love every minute of it.I just wanted to write a review to say that there are a lot of people and dogs in Greenwood, who absolutely love Camp Chinquapin. The truth is that very few people who have good experiences write about them, but people with one negative experience can write a review and affect a business's reputation.Chinquapin has been awesome. We rely on them so much. We would likely not be able to keep our loving dog without it. I advise you to experience it for yourself and make your own decision. Thanks

I took our dog in this morning at 10:30 for a preliminary day stay. He was booked for boarding on Friday. When I took him in the girl behind the counter was very nice but when she came around the counter and tried to put a leash on my normally friendly dog he lunged at her in aggression. I apologized of course and asked what they would like me to do. The owner at this point came out and said that I could take our dog back to a pen and that I could come back and get him later. I went back at 3:30 and they opened the door for me. I paid for the vaccines that were scheduled and then he walked me back to my dog. When I got back to the pen where he was he looked excited to see me. I walked him out to my truck and noticed something right away. His eyes were messed up. His one eye was swollen and the other eye was blood shot. He almost didn't look like my dog. When I asked the owner what had happened to his eye. He said they had to Wrestle him to give him his shots and it probably happened then. I was amazed and sat in the car and thought to myself they abused my dog!!! I went to the vet immediately and it cost $40 to get eye drops to heal his eyes. The vet said it appeared the dog had been choked out and that was what caused the blood vessels in his eyes to burst! I am outraged that they would admittedly hurt my dog this way.

I took my dog here to be groomed recently. He has been before and I warned them that he is a rescue and before we got him had a cracked pelvis injury. He very rarely shows any signs of it and when he does its just a slight limp. Has never shown that it bothers him when being picked up or handled but I like for anyone who handles him to be aware of it. He is very vocal, but wouldn't hurt a fly. I was informed when I picked him up that the groomer would no longer be willing to groom him with out sedation! I couldn't believe this, his other groomer that we use (because we hadn't made a decision on who to use yet) has never mentioned this and loves him, even knows him by name(needless to say, she will be the only one we use for now on!) I went home, very upset over this because he is like my child and if he was "in need of sedation" I can only imagine that he was very scared and uncomfortable.

A few hours later when I was giving him belly rubs, I noticed 3 perfectly finger shaped BRUISES on the inside of his thigh! I am simply with out words on this subject and don't understand how anyone who works with animals could hold one down enough to bruise him. I would have much rather they called me and said that they will be unable to groom him, than for him to be hurt like that. No wonder he was upset and didn't want to be groomed!

consistently disappointed

I have taken my large Shepherd here several times over the past two years, but as of today I am finding somewhere else because I will no longer be giving them my business. They claim to offer an added convenience of being open on Sunday for pick-up, but what they fail to mention (that is until you receive your bill) is that they will still charge you as if the pet stayed until the following day. To me, dropping off Friday evening and picking up Sunday evening equals exactly 48 hours (two nights), but consistently I have been charged for three full days. At $25 a day this makes me feel more than a little frustrated - $75 for a short weekend stay? This has happened to me several times over the course of the last year, and each time when I have questioned the charge for the third day the employee up front has simply apologized for the "way the system is set up" and taken off the charge for the third day. Most recently, however, the owner (Andrew Nelson) refused my request to remove the charge and basically treated me as if I were trying to take advantage of him. He had the nerve to inform me that he would not be “recharging” me for the instances in the past where his employee “mistakenly” took the charge off – yeah no kidding, buddy. This inflexibility to a loyal customer is no way to do business. Another item I will note is reminiscent of some other comments I have read. The first time I brought my dog here I also brought along her large bed. When I picked her up, the bed was brought out in a plastic trash-bag. When I got home and opened the bag I was slapped in the face by the overwhelming reek of urine. I understand that this is something that can happen during boarding, but it sure would have been nice to have been informed when I picked her up rather than discover it for myself in disgust once we returned home. By the way, this is a dog that has no problem staying loose in the house for eight to ten hours at a time with no accidents. One final observation: I have boarded this dog at several other establishments (in the Charleston area), and she generally loves the experience as she is very social. Camp Chinquapin is the only place I’ve ever brought her where she immediately starts shaking upon getting out of the car and where she does not want to be separated from us to be taken back to her kennel. Enough is enough - I will never be bringing her back. I would think twice and check around before giving this company your business.

Do not take your animal here and do not trust them to take care of you animals.

I would first like to comment on the less than satisfactory experience I had with this pet boarding facility. I have been working at a pet boarding facility for the past three years and could not even imagine treating animals and customers the way they do. When we dropped our dog off, the staff was not welcoming at all. We explained to them a number of times that she has a bad leg which she is going to have surgery on and that she had to be watched when playing, and to give her a pain pill when she began to limp. All her paper said was "pain pill as needed" with no regard or mention of her leg injury. It did not show even the slightest concern. They never allowed us to take a tour and see if the facilities worked for our dog in her condition. We just felt very uneasy leaving our dog here as we walked out the door. When we returned, it was the same unwelcoming greeting in the office. As the girl brought her from the back, I heard and saw her yelling in an angry voice, "C'mon!" and dragging her instead of walking and waiting for her.And I have saved the best for last. When we picked her up, we were given her bed and blanket in plastic trash bags with her name labeled on them. At first, I thought it was great so the dander and other natural kennel dirt would not be released in the car or in the house. But when we got home and opened them, they were covered in urine. Our dog is fully trained in going outside, and it seemed like she was not let out to go at all. And the biggest annoyance is that they did not say a word about it when we were there. They just gave us the bag to find out on our own. The feeling I got leaving our dog there from the employees was that she was a nuisance because she had an injury and needed special care.Never again will I leave any animal in the care of this facility. And I regret to recommend that anyone wishing to use this facility should not trust this business and their employees to care for your animals. It does indeed seem like they are more in it for making money instead of caring for animals. Again, I would not recommend leaving your animals here.

This if for the boarding facility service, not the animal hospital. I did not use the animal hospital's service. My experience was so bad that I felt I had to post this. Shameful!!

REQUIRING a vaccine that is not a threat, is not ethical. We were told that our dog would need the canine flu shot annually to be boarded in this facility. After calling the State Vet Director in Columbia to find out how alarming this disease is, I was told "it is of no threat to SC, at the time, and that there have been no known cases with in the state." The vaccine is discretionary, yet this facility has made it mandatory, for business gain, I presume. We now use Camp Bow Wow, or Pet Smart, which does a better job, anyways. Its interesting that both of the chains don't require the vaccine, btw. Shame on you!

disappointed

We left our two dogs and were appalled at the condition when they were returned, both dogs smelled of urine, their bedding had to be thrown away it reeked so badly even their stuffed toys had be thrown away, we dropped off their food - were gone for a week and got 11 cans back when we dropped off 12. A small amount of dry food was gone but not enough to feed two dogs for a week. Our female takes a pill once a day and they said they had "trouble" so she may not have gotten it every day. I will drive to Greenville or Spartanburg before I leave my pets here again.
