My "sweetie" made VALENTINE's 2011 most memorable. He took me to dinner at 'THE GREEN ROOM'. (THE GREEN ROOM is a beautiful restaurant with the ambiance of simple elegance; exposed brick and rich wood, intimate low lighting, and gorgeous art pieces provided by local artists. The owners and staff are amazing! The food is scrumptiously delicious and presented in elegantly, simple sophistication. If you haven't been there yet, it is a MUST! THE GREEN ROOM is located next door to SHARKEY's, across the street from MAST GENERAL STORE). As we entered the restaurant, we were greeted warmly by the hostess who seated us promptly. Our waiter, greeted us and brought our drinks; then came a basket of delicious breads accompanied with specialty butters and an infused oil...exotically tasty! Next followed a Spinach & Artichoke Dip...smooth, creamy and flavorful! Then the entrees made a grand appearance, each tantalized and satiated the taste buds...one, a Shrimp & Grits dish, slightly spicy with Andouille sausage; the other, an elegant display of Meatloaf nestled atop baby pearl peas and jalapeno macaroni-n-cheese, all perfectly seasoned with one layer complimenting the other. For dessert, the Berry Cobbler was recommended...it was a perfect choice! The cobbler had a crisply browned, sugared crust floating atop plump and pleasantly tart berries simmering in a bubbling bath of natural berry juices...all I can say is, "Y-U-M-M-Y"! All of this beautifully, delicious food was expertly prepared by Chef Andre. (KUDOS!, Chef Andre!). The finishing touch was a glass of champagne. It was perfectly chilled and delicately flavorful to the palette. My Valentine 2011 was extraordinarily special; thanks to my "sweetie" and the wonderful staff at THE GREEN ROOM. I had been wanting to eat at Cateran's ever since I moved into the neighborhood nearby. And to be honest, I can't believe I waited so long! I absolutlely loved it! It did feel like I was back in elementary school, waiting in line in the lunch room. But it was great. The food was so filling, and so wonderful. It tasted just like my Mother's and Grandmother's homemade cooking! The atmosphere was delightful, because there wasn't any loud music, noise, or people. It was a very relaxing place, and the service was excellent. Our waitress was one of the best servers that we have had in.....ever. She made sure that our glasses, and everyone else's, were never low or empty. She was a very nice girl, that was genuine. If I could, I would eat there for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And if you like peach cobbler, then you definantly need to try theirs. Oh man. It's really good. So if you're looking for good, filling, takes you back to your child-hood, makes you wanna smack your Grandma homemade soul food, then eat at Cateran's. It worth the wait. : )
After realizing Park Avenue was private, we joined. So far the benefits of membership far out-weigh the process of joining. Once we decided to try it out we were sorry that we had waited so long! Food was great, I had a steak with a house salad & potato. My date had the daily quiche which was filled with goat cheese, sun-dried tomatoes & asparagus with a side of fresh pasta salad. All of their patrons were very nice and seemed to love the place as well. Live music started around 8:30 on the patio where we finished our night off with some live jazz & a piece of, apparently fresh, key lime pie-best either of us had ever had! We will now consider ourselves regulars when we are in town. Cleanliness is apparently a standard.
